Product Description

Review

It is an incredible book, which deals in depth with every detail of diabetes care in young people and it never ducks any issues. --Dr Charles Fox, Consultant Physician at Northampton General Hospital

This book must be successful if it can run into a fifth edition and of course it is. When I was in a busy children s diabetes clinic I supplied this book for borrowing or purchase by many parents and they gained enormously by having it available. It is packed full of good practical advice to help parents and young people deal with their difficult condition successfully. --Dr Peter Swift, Consultant Paediatrician, Leicester Royal Infirmary

About the Author

Dr Ragnar Hanas is Consultant Paediatrician at Uddevalla Hospital in Sweden, specialising in diabetes. He is Secretary General of the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), and co-editor of the 2009 ISPAD Clinical Practice Guidelines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for young people or parents... 27 Nov 2012
Despite the title, this book is just as relevant for older adults. I've been diagnosed type 1 for 34 years and for much of that held on to knowledge and beliefs from my early days. I bought this book about 2 years ago (a previous edition) and it opened my eyes to so many new ideas as well as describing some of the more complex processes that affect my diabetes.

I would urge any type 1 diabetic, whatever their age, to get hold of a copy. It wouldn't hurt a few health professionals to read it either!

If you only buy one reference book to help you manage your child's type 1 diabetes, buy this one. It is thorough and authoritative, easy for the layman to understand, and considerate of its readership. The author is clearly a humane and caring medical expert who cares deeply not only about his patients' physical well-being but about their emotions too. My daughter, now 9, was diagnosed at the age of 3, and I wish I'd had this book from the beginning of our journey. With Dr Hanas on side, I feel so much better equipped. I reckon in any medical crisis, knowledge is power, and this book is very empowering indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential if you have a T1D child.. 10 Aug 2012
By Dizzy
Quite simply this is the Bible for those of us who have children with Type 1 Diabetes. Clearly written for the layman, and intelligent advice. Ragnaar Hanas is brilliant and his book is his advice in a (large) nutshell. If you have a child with T1D then you will reach for this book time and time again

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a useful resource for all Type 1 diabetics 30 April 2013

My daughter is a newly diagnosed diabetic so I needed to find information quickly. This book isnt designed to be read from cover to cover, but should be used as a reference book, which i do on a daily basis. This is especially written for children (parents of) and adolescents so it makes it even more relevant when discussing issues. I'd highly recommend this for any parents of newly diagnosed children.
