Named after a computer entertainments system of yore, Anglo-American boy-girl duo Vic Twenty have been doing the 'circuit' (no pun intended) for quite a while. Now the nation is finally waking up to their unique brand of effervescent, yet contemplative, synth-pop.
This is an age where anything termed as ‘pop’ music is unfortunately categorized under the same bracket as flavourless, insipid bands cobbled together by fifty year old music business executives sporting grey suits and even greyer pony-tails. Vic Twenty, on the other hand, are a most refreshing, not to mention articulate, alternative. Their arch, acerbic wit, satirical musings, sleek early-80s synth sounds and glistening new-age optimism take you to back to a world where the soul of humankind has not yet been devoured by the power of machines, big business, blippety-blop dance music and expensive trainers.
This is their first single, and hopefully the first of many. Lead track “Txt Msg”, perhaps the first ever song written about texting, captures the ‘zeitgeist’ perfectly – ‘The easiest way to end it all is by mobile phone… the easiest way to end it all is alone’ sing Adrian and Angie wistfully. “Hell to Helsinki” is Angie’s calling card, a brilliantly written yarn about the whole gamut of emotions that relationships can bring; “Kiss You”, the third track, sticks to your head like Velcro.
When it comes to powerful, pretty, political, precious pop, Vic Twenty have already proved themselves the masters. Let’s hope this will be their first 'eight-bit' hit.

I picked up this single when I saw Vic Twenty supporting Erasure on tour. The sound is wonderfully retro, reminiscent of early Depeche Mode, Flock of Seagulls, _really_ early Human League and a whole load of others, but the lyrics are very 21st century.
If you've ever been a fan of the above bands, ever known what a Moog is (outside of Willo the Wisp!) or you were a schoolkid in the mid eighties then this single will make you smile!
Buy It! Lets get some decent music out there again!

If I usually say what makes a good artist I'll talk about emotion, depth, and inventiveness... Vic Twenty have none of those things. However forpure, cheeky, synth fun you can't go wrong with this single. You'll begoing round with ring tone shaped riffs in your head for days.

A very retro sounding cd single that reminded me of my chidhood in the eighties. Cannot wait for the album
