Book Description

A short story that takes place over the course of just two hours on a single night but sometimes two hours can seem like a lifetime.

Sophie Walsh thinks that her mother is overprotective and worries too much. Carol Walsh sees the world as a dangerous place for her young daughter to grow up. One evening, Carol returns home from a night out to find that her teenage daughter is not there. As Carol tries in vain to make contact in a series of calls and text messages, her fears for her daughter's safety mount.

It's every parent's worst nightmare but what if that nightmare came true and what if the reality was worse than you could dream?

More About the Author

M.T. Mathieson lives in the East of England countryside with her partner and two youngest children. A lover of all things fiction, she considers herself a reader who happens to write.

Born on a North Kent housing estate in the mid-sixties, writing professionally never seemed much of an option, despite a great passion for the process and the best efforts of an inspiring teacher. But it was a desire that never went away and, instead simmered on the back boiler for almost forty years. Then, inspired by the deluge of self-published novels, she decided it was time to put pen to paper again. It is a decision she does not regret.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little tale. 1 Jan. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a great but simple little ten minute story which still managed to pack a hell of a punch.

It didn't keep me awake all night but entertained nonetheless. The writing style was clean and to the point. I would love to see a collection of short stories from this writer.

What a wild little ride this was!
Mom returns late from a meeting. It's dark and she's spooked having to walk from the bus station since her husband is out of town. She expects her daughter to be home but when she gets there, no daughter to be found. Then the texting starts. Not getting replies, she starts to worry. What mom wouldn't? But it's okay! The phone was just downstairs. Daughter will be home soon. As she starts her walk home, she gets spooked and texts her mom a few times before finally arriving home to.... What? You think I'm telling you any more? No way! Get the book and see it for yourself! But be ready :-)

"It's every parent's worst nightmare but what if that nightmare came true and what if the reality was worse than you could dream?"

I almost didn't give this book any stars because the author made me want to kick myself for being made so scared. If you have a teen and even if you don't, this is the best book to read if you want to annihilate what's left of your peace of mind. As if it isn't bad enough to only communicate with your child through a dance of thumb tips on keys and choppy spelling, M.T. has to slip in and weave fear into the brain with a well written mini scare-a-thon. WTH, can we say 'why not bring a parent's dread to life?' The writing throws you smack dab in the middle of a mother's worry and drags you around with her until the very shocking end. If you're one of those minute controlling, paranoid parents, you should read this book. If you aren't one of those parents, read it anyway, you may need a little of this. Sometimes we have to change our way of thinking before we bring the fears to our door step.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Chilling TXT 9 May 2013

The author did a wonderful job in sucking me in with the first text in this story. It was short, 18 pages, I believe. But WOW, that was plenty to make this a scary read.

And the ending... let me say I got goosebumps in the middle of the day. So glad I wasn't reading late at night! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but compelling 8 May 2013

Definitely a page turner, however, it ends as soon as something interesting happens. Even though I don't care for cliff hanger endings, I look forward to reading more books by this author.

This is a short little story about a mother and daughter texting back and forth. It has the fimiliar ringtone of what goes on countless times every day. That is right up to the very end. Sure hope there is going to be a sequel.
