Format: Audio CD
Almost a year old already, Pascal Pinon's album 'Twosomeness' flew under
my radar. Another little wonder from the frozen lands of the North, Icelandic
twin sisters Jofridur and Asohildur Akadottir make a beautiful noise together.

Seeing them play in concert is a quietly unnerving experience. Side by side,
as still as stones, only the occasional sideways glance and half smile to
indicate their extraordinary musical connection. Such is the way with twins
sometimes. Their songs come and go like small white birds in a cloudless sky.

There are 12 numbers in the set; some sung in their Mother tongue, some in
English. The form of their inventions is folksy in character; simple melodies
transformed into enchanting and involving little dramas through the application
of unusual vocal harmonies and keyboard-based instrumental arrangements.

Opening track 'Ekki Vanmeta' unfolds against the foundation of a cheap beatbox
rhythm until the glowing voices sweep in as sweet as a vast honeyed sunrise.
The wonderfully ethereal 'Evgeny Kissing' immediately engages our attention
and emotions with its luminous otherworldly ambience; I suspect that the pair
have fairies at the bottom of their garden and stole this tune on a warm Summer
evening when the tiny beings were looking the other way. It is utterly magical!
Likewise 'Sumarmal', turning in unsteady circles like a broken musical box and
final number 'Rifrildi' which comes as close as anything could these days to a
prayer in godless times. If there is a heaven I hope the angels are listening....

Delightful.

Order came promptly as always with amazon..

As for the album itself, best album of 2013 so far! If you liked Pascal pinon's self titled debut, you will love this. There is a definite sense of progression and development with the music, gone is the low fi approach, and now there is vast soundscapes, giving such an atmosphere, whilst retaining what was great about Pascal pinon in the first place- amazing songwriting. More songs are sung in English this time around, but even the songs in Icelandic manage to transcend the barriers of language to give us an album of emotional and heartfelt songs.

Really beautiful album. Hadn't heard of this duo before but took a chance based on a music review. Well worth the purchase, and is being played often.
