Product Description

A thousand miles in under twenty-four hours? In a plane, sure. A car, maybe. On a motorcycle? That’s crazy. But that’s what it takes to earn membership in the Iron Butt Association, the world’s foremost organization for long-distance motorcycle riders. For these elite riders thousand-mile days in the saddle are so routine that for fun they turn them into cross-country scavenger hunts, awarding points for bonus locations along the way. The biggest of them all is the eleven-day Iron Butt Rally. When Lynda asked Terry to take her for a ride on his motorcycle on their third date, she knew his passion was long distance riding. What she didn't know was that within a few short months they would be navigating the complexities of falling in love, blending families and building a life together. Becoming partners both on and off the bike, they found themselves charting a course through intense heat, bitter cold, exhaustion, disappointment, and exhilaration in the world of competitive riding, culminating in their entry into “The World's Toughest Motorcycle Competition.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read! 25 Mar 2012
By Miss Kitty - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My copy arrived Friday afternoon. I finished reading it Saturday evening! The book is open, honest and very interesting to read. It's not just for those interested in endurance riding. There's a great story that just happens to have motorcycle riding as the backdrop. It's really about the evolution of a wonderful relationship and though it may not have been her intent, there's some good advice for anyone's relationship in there as well!

The writing style is easy to read. That's not to say it's 'simple.' Just that it appeals to a wide audience. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Share the Adventure 24 Mar 2012
By Laura Dillaway - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a quick, very pleasant book to read. Lahman gives the full story of becoming a seasoned, long-distance rider starting from scratch. For those of us, such as myself, who had never even heard of the motorcycling world described in this book, her clear, vivid descriptions allow us to share the adventure. The book is a page-turner, as the reader gets involved in the action and can't wait to see how it all ends up. And as an added bonus, it leaves you with a mental list of places around the United States that you simply must go see some day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two-Up: Navigating a relationship 1,000 miles at a time 23 Mar 2012
By ed otto - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Two-Up: Navigating a Relationship 1,000 miles at a time is a book written about the 2007 Ironbutt Rally with a twist. Usually this rally is ridden by a sole rider. This one is two up meaning a rider and passenger which increases the difficulty level by at least 50% if not more. The Ironbutt Rally is like the Olympics of Long Distance Motorcycle Touring and is held once every two years. The book was well written and I loved to see a women's point of view while dealing with the stresses of training to get into the event as well as the rally itself. It brought new insight in what two different personalities can accomplish in an eleven day event. A well written, to the point, easy to read book without too much fluff. I rate this book on the same level as Ron Ayer's Against The Wind, a book about the 1995 Ironbutt Rally. A very well written book, which should be on every long distance rider's book shelf.
