More About the Author

Bethan Darwin was born in Toronto but brought up in the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales. She studied law at King's College London and worked as a solicitor in London for a number of years before eventually returning to Wales in 1998. Bethan works full time as an employment solicitor at boutique law firm Commercial Conclusion.

Bethan also runs the women's networking group Superwoman which raises funds for various charities through its events. In 2009 she was shortlisted for the South Wales Chamber of Commerce Woman in Business award and for Red Magazine's Red Hot Woman awards in the mentor category. She is listed in the Lawyer Magazine's Hot 100 Lawyers in the UK for 2010.

Bethan always said she wanted to write a book some day but it wasn't until she was about to hit forty and while on maternity leave with her second child that she actually got round to sitting down and doing some writing. Her first novel Back Home was published by Honno in March 2009 and on the basis that you should write about what you know is partly set in the Rhondda Valleys and partly in London law firms. Her second novel Two Times Twenty was published by Honno in October 2010.

Chick lit but not as predictable as a lot of the others. Enjoyed all the characters and wanted to know how it ended for them.

If you're looking for a genial, lighthearted bit of escapism for a few hours, then this book ticks all the boxes. Rapidly approaching forty, its easy to identify with the main character, Anna, as she attempts to juggle work, family and her social life. Also written from the point of her eldest son, who is about to leave for university and is madly in love for the first time, the author has done a clever job reminding us of the passion and hope we experienced at that age. The story is also set in a beautiful part of the South Wales coast with dialogue to match, which is why I can't agree with another reviewer about spelling mistakes which always infuriate me. Anyone English familiar with 'Gavin and Stacey' will recognise several Welsh colloquialisms, such as 'tamping' meaning really cross about something, and while I can see these words could be seen as spelling mistakes, they added to the dialogue and made me laugh a number of times. A good read.
