Product Description

Three survivors from a British bomber shot down over France bail out - and land right in the middle of a German internment camp for women. Made in 1944 and co-written by the celebrated team of Launder and Gilliat, this wartime morale -boosting film boasts a distinguished cast including Phyllis Calvert, Flora Robson, Patricia Roc and Renee Houston.

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Mono ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: The '2000 Women' of the film's title are the female inmates in a WW II German concentration camp in France. Though many of the women don't get along, they are united in their hatred for their Nazi captors. The story takes a truly melodramatic turn when three English airmen parachute into the camp, offering a ray of hope for those inmates planning an escape. Some of the humour is black indeed, involving a card-playing corpse and other questionable sources of laughter, but this was the sort of material that wartime audiences wanted. Heading the cast of 2000 Women are Phyllis Calvert, Flora Robson and Patricia Roc, fine British actresses all who overcome an abundance of script deficiencies. The film was the first production of Individual Pictures, formed by the producer-director-writer team of Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat. ...Two Thousand Women ( 2,000 Women ) ( 2000 Women )

Great period piece 8 Dec 2007
Format:DVD
A wartime melodrama from the days when the war was virtually won, this star-studded piece is perhaps not the best story line you'll ever see but there are some fine cameos (e.g. Thora Hird) and some excellent writing by the standards of the time. Phyllis Calvert dominates with her 'True Brit' spirit and even the less attractive characters (e.g. Flora Robson) are shown to be whatever was the female equivalent of 'decent chaps'.

Watching this on the TV as I type.
Hilarious!
I missed the start though and can't figure out where/how the Nazi's will have captured 2000 women? Can anyone help?

pure escapism 2 Oct 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is sorta fun.Obviously a wartime morale booster there are some quite laughable moments in this and not all of them intentional. All about a hotel in france holding an assortment of english women as prisoners and what happens when 3 crashed airmen hide out there.Well thats the gist of it but really the fun is the womens interaction with each other. There are some good actress's here who individually give good performances.A good rainy day type film. Just dont expect reality .
