Love Is All are a sassy little five-piece band from Sweden.
Their new album 'Two Thousand and Ten Injuries', rather than
doing any kind of damage to the world or bringing misery to
our ears, is a perfectly-formed collection of twelve punk-pop
gems which arrives from the Cold North like a breath of fresh air.
Singer Josephine Olausson sounds like a pixie. Her joyfully cutesy
voice contrasts perfectly with the abrasive sounds thrown out by
her musical partners in crime (Nicholaus Sparding/vocals & guitar,
Johan Lindwall/bass, Frederik Erikkson/sax and Markus Gorsch/drums).
None of the songs last much more than three minutes but their
raucous concentrated energy more than makes up for their brevity.
The clickety-clackety rhythm of 'Less Than Thrilled' hurtles along
at breakneck speed. Ms Olausson holds on for dear life, buoyed-up
by some delightfully see-sawing harmonies.
The spirit of Bow Wow Wow lives on in songs like the cranky
'Early Warnings' and 'Again, Again'. Short and sweet and raw.
The twee sixties tune and Mamas and Papas vocal cadences of
'Kungen' pins down a time and a place which the band are far
too young to ever have known. They have both learned their
lessons well and brought something uniquely their own to the mix.
The viciously angular guitar shards of 'Dust' thinly disguise
the rather charming folksy melody romping along just below the
surface. Mr Gorsch's rumbustious drumming deserves especial praise!
The album concludes with a curiously magical mid-paced piece
entitled 'Take Your Time'. A lovely little misty glimpse of
fairyland to counter the pagan rites echoing still in our bones.
Love Is All make a gloriously big little noise. I'm all for it!
