Product Description

Product Description

In this inspired pairing, world-class guitarist Martin Taylor meets multi award winning reeds man Alan Barnes in an intimate duet setting. Taylor is, of course, known for his long association with Stephane Grappelli and his highly successful solo career including the recent 'Last Train to Hauteville' CD, which starred Barnes as part of his Spirit of Django group. Barnes is simply Britain's number one mainstream reeds player and concentrates solely on clarinet on this album.

The repertoire on the recording is wide ranging and unusual yet is complimented by two catchy and accessible originals from the pen of each player. Beautifully recorded at Castle Sound Studios, this disc sees the two musicians bring out the best in each other in an "after hours" session which, whilst clearly virtuosic, features some beautifully relaxed playing.

Personnel: Martin Taylor (guitar), Alan Barnes (clarinet)

I've just returned from my local jazz club where Alan Barnes played several of the tracks from this fine album albeit without Martin Taylor. Alan Barnes is without question one the UK's finest jazz reed players and on this album, featuring his clarinet playing, the teaming of the guitar of Martin Taylor produces jazz of the highest quality. Now stop reading this and buy the album!

A warm, sympathetic record, skilfully played. 'Slowcoach' and their version of 'Stranger on the shore' are very more-ish. Let's hope there'll be a follow-up.

This CD is an excellent interpretation of some jazz classics by two first class musicians. The style is at times beautifully old fashioned. My wife likes it more than some of my more "modern jazz"!An excellent buy if you like your jazz relaxing.

A great example of two players making a wide range of music together. These guys are masters of their craft. They produce a wide range of colours, ideas, tones, etc. I highly recommend this recording.
