From Amazon.co.uk

Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps features the sex-fuelled lives of five late-teens/early twenty-somethings in the northern town of Runcorn. Janet is going out with Jonny, his best friend Gaz has started to date Janet's best friend Donna, and self-centred student Louise just wants a job to keep her in cigarettes. There's also Donna's sarcastic mother, Flo, constantly nagging her daughter to take up a 'proper' relationship with a worthy young man. Storylines followed the on-again/off-again relationships of the young protagonists who have lots of sex and meet in pubs.
After the first series the show was initially broadcast on BBC Choice and its successor BBC3. The second series was shown by terrestrial BBC2 from 12 August to 16 September 2002, the third from 7 July to 15 September 2003, the musical special on 10 May 2004 and the fourth series from 17 May to 19 July 2004.
The show's title was inspired by the 1980 hit single 'Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps Please' by "Splodgenessabounds".

5.0 out of 5 stars Get real 10 Feb 2007
Thank goodness there is someone who can write humour. I find the reviews bad mouthing this set a little sad, and anyone who holds up 'Friends' as an example of humour is obviously a very mainstream person. This is not mainstream, its not for kids (as Blackadder, however funny, could be enjoyed by them as well), its not about white middle class men and women as was The Office and its not american like Scrubs. Its British, its Northern and I think i must be missing something here, its not toilet humour or I didn't think so. Its not like Bottom or the Young Ones.

The characters are well drawn, especially Donna's. I'd love to see that actress in other things. There is no need to 'play it humourously' It isn't meant to be so set up as 'My Family' or those of that genre. The laughs are almost unintentional, you don't know you are going to laugh and then you find yourself laughing out loud. Its not for a lot of people, those with an oversimplistic sense of humour perhaps, those who like white Southern humour or slick American, but it is funny. And if you like it you love it, and if you don't, just don't buy this boxed set. Easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Hillarious 6 Jun 2009

Two Pints is an on-going, on-growing comedy sit com broadcast by the BBC (usually BBC3 these days) about the ups and downs of a group of friends living up North in Britain (Runcorn to be exact.) It follows the triumphs and deceits of the friends and captures the warmth and vulnerability of being a twentysomething- and it is ultimately hilarious from start to finish! As a few people have said, I think the marmite argument may apply in the case of Two Pints. If you get it, then you will love it and savor it for the comedy gold that it is. If you don't, then you will probably just find it immature and vile. I love the show and have purchased the boxset for the first reason. I also think, whilst being simple in some places the show carries a deeper meaning under the concept of being in your face. The characters are very real and you actually do come to laugh and cry with them. The storylines are usually bright and funny, but at times the show does capture moments of sensitivity on behalf of the young people. Lets not forget they are hormonal young adults, mostly unemployed and living in a rugged estate!

I don't have a favorite character as I believe they all get their own considerable amount of screen time. Will Mellor as Gaz is a perfect choice in my eyes. He plays the 'sex God womanizer' finely and portrays his character with a tongue in cheek nod to the audience. Natalie Casey plays his on-off girlfriend Donna, who's sensibleness and usually straight-played sense of humor makes her a stand out performance. The trademark couple, Johnny and Janet (Ralf Little and Sheridan Smith) are equally funny, especially when they are on screen together. Janet is vulnerable, with a knowledge which consists mainly of episodes of Trisha and Johnny is a 'pleb' as Louise would put it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank the sweet heavens 19 Feb 2007
This show is just fab. Full stop. Although others may say that its tasteless, or hasnt got a story line, youre so wrong! Youve all obviously lost touch with your childhood, or maybe just a tad too snobbish to understand why its funny.

I mean, they are 5, fairly poor, twentysomethings that go to the bed, its hardly going to be a top notch laugh fest, with line after line of amazing jokes.

Its just plain funny, and if youre feeling down, its perfect to watch! It makes me smile and laugh out loud whenever i see it!

Im currently bidding for this DVD, and cannot wait to watch the episodes i havnt seen, and watch the best [When janet met jonny & when janet killed jonny] again!

i think all you who poopoo this TV show just because it isnt as funny as...cough...'friends', you should try lighten up a little, and get back to roots with the side of you that doesnt care about anything, just like these guys dont!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect 8 Feb 2007
By Aug
This is british comedy at its best, they've taken everything fun out of the Americen youth comedy and made it realistic and have also added on the excellance of british jokes.

This is worth the buy even if you only watch the music special which nobody can deny is very original.

I can only say buy.

Finaly the meaning of life is: lager and crisps.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHO'S GETTING THE PINTS IN THEN...? 11 Jun 2007
By Amazon Customer VINE VOICE
I've already written a review on boxset 1-4 (which was the one I brought originally) so I'll encapsulate what I've already said and take into account some of the reviews already on here.

Okay, first things first. If you are easily offended, and don't like comedies such as League of Gentlemen, Family Guy or South Park, then you're unlikely to be impressed with Pints. Why? Well, the humour is crude, lewd, can be random and offensive. It's as simple as not buying the boxset - really it is.

However - If you're like me, who loves comedy - I will watch anything from Porrige to Pints, then this is something you may enjoy - though i recommend you do check out the repeats currently running in the small hours on BBC3 at the moment before committing yourself.

Pints, desite being offensive and full of toilet humour, has no airs and graces. It doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It is merely basic, down to earth comedy about the lives of five twentysomethings with little in life except each other. And beer. And larger. And Jammie Dodgers.

It is a closer depiction to modern society than I think some people care to admit, (which is why they might be uncomfortable watching it) as the average twenty something will tell you, nights are made up of takeaways, chatting with mates or downing booze at the local. It's funny, and makes me smile. My particular fave characters in this are Donna and Gaz, and when he asks her to marry him, I was almost crying. You see, when Pints is not being loud, or crude it can be very sensitive and very real. (And Will Mellor is very nice looking!!)

Pints has enjoyed a great deal of success and with series 7 on the way, it's not likely to stop yet. I can't wait...
