"help me Charlie, I wanna sing for no reason!", 14 Nov 2005
Being a fan of Charlie Sheen I was pretty damn excited when I found out about this show, I thought it'd be great, hilarious, basically just plain amazing. And to tell you the truth, I'm yet to be disapointed. Charlie Sheen (Platoon, Wall Street) plays (yeah, you guessed it) a guy called Charlie Harper, a womanising, big drinking, jingle writer. His brother, Alan, is played by the very funny Jon Cryer (Pretty In Pink). The pair have brilliant chemistry on screen and they seem to feed off one another. It's good seeing them reunited again after "Hot Shots!". The scenes with Jake (Angus T. Jones) are probably the best though. He is one funny kid. I've seen all of the first series and most of the second. But I'm glad it's finally out on DVD because it's one of those shows where you won't get bored watching the episodes again and again. Particularly funny episodes to look out for in the first series are: "Merry Thanksgiving"; "An Old Flame With A New Wick"; and "I Remember The Coatroom, I Just Don't Remember You". But, in truth, all of the episodes are very, very funny. The boxset is a total must have for any Charlie Sheen fan, or even anyone who likes some good one-liner comedy. Go Buy It! :)

a triumph of entertainment...., 20 Nov 2006
"Two and a Half Men", is a real breath of fresh air in the world of sitcoms. It has what a lot of sitcoms have lost, a sense of fun and a balanced use of lead characters, meaning that the show is the real winner...this is no mean acheivement given that Charlie Sheen is by far and away the big name star, which should make the show a vehicle for his comedy, but instead Sheen acts as the perfect foil to the neurotic intensity that John Cryer brings to playing Charlie's brother Alan.
The show also makes great strides in the area of family comedy, most series such as Frasier or Friends side step the issue of divorce or use it as a back drop to other activity. Two and a half men is brave enough to take the topic on and do so in a non-condescending way, which gives fresh life to the staple characters of family comedy, the child, the mother-in-law and the wife...
The first series is an excellent introduction to the world of Two and a Half Men and still stands up to re-watching even after the successive series are watched. The only reason I gave it four stars was because I prefer the second series which is a lot more daring and unconventional, but if you love comedy you'll buy them both...

Perfectly Flawed, 11 Nov 2006
Here in Norway we have Two and a half men on one of the comercial channels, so you'd think it fits really well, being american and all. However, I think it goes against the grain quite a bit. Very few if any of the people in this sit com are in any real sense of the word; "good people". Charlie Sheen (Platoon) plays Charlie Harper, a fornicator of grandiose proportions, he has a given talent, but squanders it on the easy buck. Jon Cryer (No Small Affair) is Alan, a character weak at best, his only real strong trait his love for his son. The brothers mother (Holland Taylor) is deplorable on most occations, Alans former wife Judith (Marin Hinkle) is all business and neuroses. Our titular half man, Jake (Angus Jones), is a dunce, and not your lovable, smart mouthed, wise beyond his years, kind of kid most US sitcoms are filled to the brim with. The neighbour, Rose (Melanie Lynskey, Heavenly Creatures) is sweet, but may or may not be borderline dangerous.
Despite all of this you got to love these flawed people, and that's probably why this is a success. As much as we loved Ross, Chandler, Monica, Rachel and all the rest out there, perfect gets boring.
Here in Norway you can watch Two and a half Men as well as My Name is Earl on the same day. Talk about a perfect pairing of flawed people.
