Ok, here I go again, raving about another classic Dead concert recording. However, if you're going to purchase only one of the many Grateful Dead archive releases then "Two From The Vault" would be a very worthy choice.
Recorded mostly on August 24th 1968 (a bonus 3rd disc on the newly remastered edition contains "Alligator", "Caution" and "Feedback" from the previous night), TFTV includes a version of "Dark Star" that, to my mind, rivals the magnificent version on "Live Dead", for many the quintessential live Dead recording. Following this exceptional performance, we get a fantastic "St Stephen/The Eleven", concluding with a superb "Death Don't Have Mercy".
Disc 2 is equally hot, with "Cryptical Envelopment/The Other One", "New Potato Caboose", a scorching "Turn On Your Lovelight" and finally "Morning Dew". The sound quality throughout is A++++, thanks to a brilliant and painstaking remastering job. Crank it up and get lost in Dead Heaven!
