Book Description

If you think that a self-catering holiday means exchanging one sink for another, then this book will change your mind. Written by two empty-nesters who love to travel but hate being tourists, it's a lighthearted chronicle of their first adventure together in Venice. Full of useful observations and amusing and informative anecdotes, these two 'ducks' achieve what they set out to do, which is to show how fun and easy it is to be a local in your destination of choice, if only for a week.

About the Author

Philippa and Virginia spent the first eight years of their lives 'joined at the hip', inseperable. Then their lives took them in different directions and while they raised their families in different countries, Philippa started writing and Virginia became and restaurateur and caterer. Now back in England and back in close touch, they both leapt at the idea of traveling together, and so began the Ducks' adventures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two Ducks in Venice. 29 Sept. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A fun read, which reminded me of my time in Venice, but next time I must rent a flat rather than stay in a hotel. The Two Ladies sound huge fun, and I would love to go on holiday with them, hopefully for longer than their brief stay, and show them some of my favourite places.

Makes me want to drop everything and head to Venice...but to an apartment (after I have checked the beds are soft and comfy!) not a hotel! But I would also quite like to take the 2 ducks with me!! A good read, much enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and informative 13 April 2014

Downloaded this recently as we were off to venice self catering just like these two. So was pleased to read the helpful hints, especially about how confusing it sounded but how easy it was when there. Would have liked to have know the exact year and did not find out until the end of the book as to the time of year. Apart from that small omission really enjoyed the read, hope they go somewhere else to write about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable trip with the two 'ducks' 26 Mar. 2014

Have been to Venice and stayed in an apartment in Cannaregio. Would have loved to have read this before we went as it would have given us a heads up on life in Venice - trying to be an invisible tourist.
A very easy and entertaining read as well as very informative.

2.0 out of 5 stars An unfulfilling read 2 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The premise of this book is good, unfortunately, the story is told in a childlike manner with very little detail to back up the narrative. Many of the details are 'skipped over' and there are far too many typo's for my liking.

very good book wish I had read it before I went to Venice, however very enjoyable, It brought back memories as I recognised the places talked about in the book. Thanks for the tips on places to visit in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars A thin story of two ladies on a holiday. 15 April 2014
By Conrad
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I suppose the title, a good one, attracted me to this book, but I was disappointed with the read. They went, one of the beds was very uncomfortable, they went sightseeeing, they ate - and they came home.
