If you think that a self-catering holiday means exchanging one sink for another, then this book will change your mind. Written by two empty-nesters who love to travel but hate being tourists, it's a lighthearted chronicle of their first adventure together in Venice. Full of useful observations and amusing and informative anecdotes, these two 'ducks' achieve what they set out to do, which is to show how fun and easy it is to be a local in your destination of choice, if only for a week.

Makes me want to drop everything and head to Venice...but to an apartment (after I have checked the beds are soft and comfy!) not a hotel! But I would also quite like to take the 2 ducks with me!! A good read, much enjoyed.
very good book wish I had read it before I went to Venice, however very enjoyable, It brought back memories as I recognised the places talked about in the book. Thanks for the tips on places to visit in the future.
I suppose the title, a good one, attracted me to this book, but I was disappointed with the read. They went, one of the beds was very uncomfortable, they went sightseeeing, they ate - and they came home.
Downloaded this recently as we were off to venice self catering just like these two. So was pleased to read the helpful hints, especially about how confusing it sounded but how easy it was when there. Would have liked to have know the exact year and did not find out until the end of the book as to the time of year. Apart from that small omission really enjoyed the read, hope they go somewhere else to write about.
