Book Description

The Hanging Shed

Glasgow, 1946. The war is over, and Douglas Brodie is back home. A young boy has been raped and murdered, and Brodie's childhood friend Hugh Donovan, a recluse mutilated by war, is the only suspect. Convinced of Donovan's innocence, Brodie trawls the streets for answers with advocate Sam Campbell, uncovering a deadly Glasgow razor gang prepared to slaughter innocents to protect their dark and dirty secrets. But with time running out for Donovan and Sam missing, Brodie reverts to his wartime role as a trained killer. It's them or him...

Bitter Water

Glasgow's melting. The temperature is rising and so is the pressure on ex-policeman Douglas Brodie and advocate Sam Campbell. A rapist has been tarred and feathered by a balaclava-clad group, and Brodie soon discovers a link between this horrific act and a series of brutal beatings. He's swamped with stories for his new Glasgow Gazette column, but how long before he and Sam become the headline?

More About the Author

Thanks for taking a look at me and my books. My latest is MONEY TREE, an international thriller with strong female characters and some rousing action from New York to New Delhi. My motley but heroic crew are tested to the limit as they square up to misogyny, Dark web attacks and psychopathic bosses.

MONEY TREE marks a real departure from the critically acclaimed 'Douglas Brodie' quartet set in post War Glasgow. The four books have topped the Amazon kindle bestseller charts. Each story stands alone but the chronology is: HANGING SHED, BITTER WATER, PILGRIM SOUL and GALLOWGLASS. Before Brodie, came the Danny McRae series: TRUTH DARE KILL and UNQUIET HEART. Both books hit Amazon #1. I'm always happy to hear from my readers - criticism or accolades. Please feel free to drop me an email at: or visit my web site:

Best wishes and good reading!

I like the way Ferris makes the story twist and turn. It gives the reader some idea of how tough life was in Glasgow as a ex soldier trying to return to a ,normal, life. . A good read

5.0 out of 5 stars If it's by Gordon Ferris read it! 19 Oct. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am currently on the last Gordon Ferris book available on Kindle. He has become one of my favourite authors after reading my first free one. I compare him favourably with Peter May. The character Douglas Brodie is a wee bit larger than life in his experience and capabilities but surely fictional heroes are allowed that artistic licence. Each book Ferris has written can be read on its own but I do recommend trying to read them in chronological order. I don't want to describe the plots of these books but I recommend all the series to anyone who enjoys good prose and action. The Danny McRae series is connected to to the Brodie series because of the overlap of the main characters.
Gallowglass is completely separate but also a page turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars The second brilliant book by Gordon Ferris 19 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has Brodie ranging between Glasgow and the highlands following the trail of corruption connected with contracts to participate in the regeneration of Glasgow after WW2 and the actions of a group of men calling themselves the Marshals. A worthy successor to the Hanging Shed, beautifully written it conjures up a marvellous backdrop of Glasgow and the beauties of the lochs and mountains. If you have not yet read any books in this series by Gordon Ferris I would advise you to start with the Hanging Shed as they can stand alone but have a more satisfying dimension when read in sequence.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new seam to mine. 16 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I feel as if I have found a new seam to mine. Douglas Brodie has his flaws and strengths, frustrations and successes. He is real because Gordon Ferris is a writer that conjures up a movie in your mind as you read. Writing in Scots isn't easy but I could hear the language of my youth. I went straight on to the next Douglas Brodie novel, and the next. Now I'm waiting for another. I hope Peter Forbes reads these for Audible.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved these two books 7 Mar. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved these two books. Beng a Glaswegian it's great to be able to relate to all the names and places. Brodie has his demons owing to what he has been through during his time in the armed forces, and finds dificulty in what he actually wants to do for a career, and, although he doesn't go looking for trouble, he always seems to fnd himsef in the middle of it. I am now on to book three andloving it.

Both books concern a Scottish soldier returning from WWII and trying to find his way in life.
Excellent consecutive stories with realistic characters and well thought out plot.
Could not put them down once started.
