5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, inspired film 25 Nov 2012
Format:DVD
As a previous review says, this blends (a little) fact and a lot of (unavoidable) fiction into what was a real encounter at Lennon's apartment in 1976.

The whole scenario, dialogue and banter just seems SO real - and the acting is amazing! You will truly think it's John and Paul!

Probably one for die-hard Beatles fans though, as I think you would need to know a lot of the details of their lives and careers - plus the state of their relationship at this time - to understand all that is going on. But if you do, this film is nothing short of a joy and prompts many 'what-ifs' in your mind.

I hope that their final physical meeting was as warm as this one eventually turns out to be. (Lennon's initial coldness and nerves is a gripping part of the film).

It seems that, even after this meeting, the two of them were still sometimes at loggerheads on the phone, although it sounds like their relationship did largely improve as the 70s went on.

Life is too short for 'fussing and fighting' and I guess they thought they would have several decades to reunite and do some work together....I think that if, after watching this, you decide to take a risk and try to patch things up with a friend or a family member (after all, tomorrow might be too late), then that will be another worthwhile outcome from a fantastic film.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great homage to a legendary partnership 12 Sep 2011
By Niki
Format:DVD
I have only just seen this film and was completely bowled over by it. Inspired casting, Aidan Quinn utterly convinces as Paul and the exceptional Jared Harris, (a credit to his his great dad Richard), captures a huge flavour of Lennon in a way that I don't think any other actor, including the brilliant Ian Hart, has ever done before.
It's a lovely script, really well rounded and satisfying, the all important humour is perfectly pitched.
It is made with a real love for it's subject, but in no way romanticises it. The mutual respect that these two ordinary Liverpool men had for each that together made something quite extraordinary is perfectly caught.

This film that deserves to be better known will satisfy both Beatles fans as well as anyone else, as a story of two guys who's great friendship inexplicably ended and who happened to meet up again years later. It's funny, touching and hugely poignant. This along with 'Backbeat' and 'The Rutles' for me captures the true spirit of the Beatles and two of the best singer/song writers ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting concept 23 July 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A very interesting quirky drama about 'What may have happened' when Paul came round to John's apartment in New York in 1976 whilst touring with Wings.
They discuss The Beatles break up, growing old and losing loved ones over the years. The dialogue is witty, laugh out loud funny and poignantly sad in certain scenes and crammed full of Beatles references. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg who directed The Beatles last feature film 'Let it Be' so definetley a well qualified director to look after this project.
It is very much shot in a TV Play kind of way with only three principal locations 'Johns Apartment','Central Park' and 'Italian Restaturant'.
This would appeal too most Beatles fans and is quite interesting as it is set in a period where Paul not John was the most succesful and respected Beatle which since John's death seems to have been brushed aside.
