I wanted to read this book because I am responsible for a charity's Twitter account. While I have mastered the basics - tweeting, retweeting, use of hashtags, etc - I wasn't sure whether I was getting the most out of Twitter. This book has shown me several areas in which I can improve.

Twitter for Good contains a mix of practical advice and case studies, aimed at helping you improve the world one tweet at a time. It was the former that I found most useful. I don't know how many practical lessons I can take away from the extended case studies, but they do make for interesting reading. I'd also question the legitimacy of including a fictional case study, though the author is transparent about this ruse.

What I found useful was the way in which this book divided Twitter accounts into three styles: a) organisational, b) personalised and c) fundraising. Once you know which category your account falls into it's easier to keep the style of your tweets consistent. The importance of monitoring is also emphasised. I particularly liked the quantitative and qualitative ways the author suggests to measure your success.

I'd recommend this book to people who have mastered the basics of Twitter and who want to take things further. It's also good for anyone who is interested in the phenomena of Twitter and the influence it has in the world. The author is Head of Corporate Social Innovation and Philanthropy at Twitter, so just don't expect a warts and all expose.

This easy to read book is full of good advice about how to use Twitter for the benefit of good causes. There are plenty of anecdotes and examples of how charitable or non-profit organisations have used Twitter to promote their causes successfully. Although it says the same rules can apply to for profit organisations, its bias is strongly on good causes and not commerce. I have taken some good tips from this book and the resource list is very helpful. A must for non-profit organisations getting involved in social media!

Clair Diaz-Ortiz has created an attractive and easy-to-follow guide for both organisations and individuals here. She outlines the importance of using the T.W.E.E.T. framework (Target, Write, Engage, Explore, Track) so that your tweets score the maximum added value to raising the profile of your good causes, whether this is through the use of an information, personalised or fundraising account.

All the kind of questions you'd ever wanted to ask about Twitter, but were afraid to ask, are answered in here (things like "How many times a day do I tweet?", "how many people should do the tweeting?" and "should you re-tweet?") and there's even a top questions reference list at the back to remind you.

My sole criticism - that the book will potentially date very quickly as social media moves on - is not something that this book, or any other book on the subject, could conceivably address so I'd give this 4 and a half stars if I could!

So, in conclusion, this is an easy to follow, attractive reference book for anyone wanting to make a real difference through the use of this (currently) innovative piece of social media.
