2.0 out of 5 stars No no no! 16 Jun 2012
By Darren Simons TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Firstly, an explanation of the score... I hated this product and think it's horrendous. However, my wife doesn't mind it, our baby will go to sleep with it so I feel obliged to be a little generous with the score.

The CD is rather old-fashioned sounding with a fairly sombre / dull vocal to try and get your baby to sleep. The sound quality is okay.

I can understand the logic of taking a song and singing it nice and slow, but the choice of songs is truly bizarre. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is something you sing at Twickenham watching the rugby after 5 pints of Guinness; Row Row Row Your Boat is a song you sing to your little one to entertain them and keep them awake.

Actually what's rather dastardly about the whole thing is that the first few songs are quite normal (Rock-a-bye-baby, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Lavender Blue amongst others) so it's okay until mummy and daddy have gone... but Down In The Valley, Incy Wincy Spider, Frere Jacques, Little Bo Beep and Scarborough Fair are not bedtime songs regardless of how sombre they are sung. Poor baby is going to end up with one curious taste in music.

If this does work for you, may I recommend listening to Crash Test Dummies or perhaps any pop song played at half speed... it will do the same thing. In fact, maybe the shipping forecast. Sleep and geography lessons at the same time!

2.0 out of 5 stars Well it nearly put me to sleep! 1 Jun 2012
By Matt VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I ordered this CD as we've been using a Christmas lullaby CD to get my baby to sleep since December and while it is nice to listen to, I thought I'd try to get a bit more variety for her.

This lullaby CD comes with many favourites as well as some lesser known (or in my case, unknown) songs. The style in which they are performed is sombre and more boring than entertaining. The songs don't sound as though they are aimed at children but I can't think of anyone else who would find enjoyment in it. It's not that it's so bad, it's just not very good although I guess you get get what you pay for. My recommendation would be to keep looking for something else more suitable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, nothing special but not bad 9 Jun 2012
By M. Marikar VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The cd is 45 minutes long and contains many popular and well known children's lullabies along with some lesser known ones even one which was sung in another language, I could not tell what. Some of the songs are ones you don't hear much these days like little boy blue, and all the pretty little horses and some very well known classics like Twinkle Twinkle, Row row row your boat.

What all the songs have in common is that they are slower songs, lullabies for bedtimes so it is quite a low key cd nothing active and envigorating.

Some of the songs are sang by a woman, and some by a man, and they are accompanied by the piano with no other backing so it sounds quite "bare" and a quite old fashioned feel. It is quite soothing and calming, and I would say suitable for bedtime. I find it more suitable for younger babies than toddlers, but it depends on the child.

It does not stand out to me above other similar nursery rhyme cds we have but if you are looking for something with just lullabies and slow quiet songs for bedtimes, without anything too active or 'exciting' to wake them up then this could do the job.

45 minutes of popular children's songs. A mixture of lullabies such as Twinkle, Twinkle and Row your Boat alongside a few more unusual songs such as Little Boy Blue and All the Pretty White Horses. The songs are slow, gentle and rythmic. Perfect for lulling small children to sleep. However; you wouldn't find many toddlers wanting to listen to the quite boring voices and simple musical accompaniment. The CD has a properly 'old fashioned' feel and there's nothing contemporary or new. Reminds me of the 1970s. Don't like it and neither do my grandchildren.

3.0 out of 5 stars Twinkle Twinkle Little Star 8 Jun 2012
By S. Wilson TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm not quite sure what to make of this CD in that I like that it's got the traditional lullabies but don't like the more unusual songs that seem to have been thrown in such as Swing Low Sweet Chariot????! I know it's a bedtime CD and is meant to be slow paced but it is a little bit too somber in my opinion and I'm still trying to work out if it's because of the male or the female singer (one of them just doesn't sound right in my opinion). My son was totally un-interested in it and if anything made him more alert because I think he just sort of tuned it out. Not the worst children's CD I've heard but unfortunately not the best either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect to keep baby quiet!! 30 Mar 2013

Twinkle Twinkle Litte Star has kept my little grand-niece amused for weeks - and occasionally even settles her for sleep!! The songs are the traditional songs I remember from my childhood, and are well-presented. Very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bedtime music! 23 Feb 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Perfect for trying to get a toddler to relax and thus sleep. My little 20month old grandson had never been able to go to sleep without his mum rocking him until he nodded off. This 45minute c.d. was full of gentle, non cloying music that made it possible for mum to go out of the berdroom before sleep had come!

As an adult, I found this CD unbelievably dull to listen to, and thought the choice of songs was decidedly bizarre. However, as the name of the product suggests, it is intended for getting children to sleep, which it definitely did, so it fits the remit of the recording.

Effective but one to stick in the CD player and leave the room!
