Kate Drake, a well-travelled bestselling novelist, is one of seven sisters. Seven very special sisters who happen to be witches. When she returns to the small coastal town in northern California where she grew up right before Christmas to attend her sister's wedding, she decides to settle there. She intends to open a book store in a charming, but run-down and spooky historic house. I became a fan of Christine Feehan through her Dark series, which I love and of course brought this new book, which continued the story she started in the anthology "Lover Beware", about seven witch sisters. This story is SO different from her Carpathian series that I would classify this story as a romantic suspense - I had creepy horror music playing through my head during half of the story that gave me the chills!
Kate, the second oldest Drake sister, is a best-selling author whose gift is to weave stories. She sees herself as plain compared to her more beautiful and gifted sisters and the one man she is attracted to is way out of her league. What Kate doesn't realise is that the object of her affection, Matt, has always been attracted to her and considered her out of his league also.
On her return to Sea Haven, Kate decides to settle and buys a local property to fix up and open as a bookstore. Matt has also returned to Sea Haven and is helping with the family business. When Kate mentions her property, Matt offers to help fix it up. However, when an earthquake causes a malevolent spirit to be released from the foundations of Kate's new purchase, Kate and her sisters must use their magical abilities to stop and contain it and Matt realises that Kate is too important to him to leave unprotected...
I found this second book in the series "The Twilight Before Christmas" truly enjoyable. Both the heroine and hero were believable and fun to read about. The added backlines about the secondary characters and the rest of the Drake sisters added to the whole story.
The storyline was good; the suspense and supernatural elements were well played out to give you chills and the history of Christmas was interesting in the context of the story. Feehan does a good job in this respect, playing on themes such as redemption, love, goodwill and sacrifice. All important and appropriate themes for a Christmas story.

when an earthquake cracks the mill's foundations, it reveals a crypt, that kate senses holds a centuries old evil. now it is unleashed.
it's coming after kate and matt vows to guard her from dusk until dawn.
with her sister's help kate knows she will have to summon all of her powers to battle the darkness that awaits them......
this is the second novel i have read by christine feehan, and although this book wasn't one of her best it was readable.
i think what lets this book down,is the central charactor of kate, for a powerful witch she was very timid and quite annoying at times.
i enjoyed reading this book, but i feel that it wasn't quite believable at times. these powerful women - witches, are too readily accepted by the towns folk and no-one really questions all that they do. it's also not a very powerful book, the storyline would normally work well, but this is too much like easy reading.
it's a nice little story and i look forward to the future storys of these women.

Having been a keen fan of Christine Feehan all I can say is "WORDS FAIL ME"
The characters are forgettable, the plot mediocre and I actually found myself skipping pages hoping the nail bitting story she normally delivers would miraculously appear!!
I have waited for months in suspence for this book.WHAT A LET DOWN.
I can honestly say I wouldn't bother buying the sequel.
I wouldn't go as far as plagiarism, but having read James Herbert "THE FOG" and Nora Roberts stories about the sisters with supernatural powers this is a mis-match of similar plot and characters.
Matt obviously needs therapy if he has to marry in between waiting for Kate his only true love, "EXCUSE ME ARE WE REAL?"
My final comment must be "I WAS ROBBED!"

A wonderful book. Full of love and passion, but lurking at the edges trying to force them apart is evil. I will defiantly recommend this book.
