.. or, in this case, the planets.

Kerberos is an unusual high fantasy setting, in which the world is mostly water. It is also darker than most - Kerberos is a world on the decline. The old races (the ones with things like "magic" and "innovation") have disappeared, leaving a cluster of fragmented, largely-xenophobic human kingdoms. The Final Faith - a slightly apocalyptic religious cult - is sweeping through the land, converting by the sword if necessary.

Although other books in this series remain confined to the land-locked bits, The Call of Kerberos goes sailing over (and under) the stormy seas. It begins with a fantasy version of Mission Impossible - two adventurers, captive to the Final Faith, nick a fabulously well-kitted-out ship. While the cruel seas of Kerberos are enough to pound most vessels to splinters, this magical Elven ship will be able to explore the world with ease...

At the same time, a (lowly) fisherman is coming to grips with his unusual heritage. Silus is happy with his boat, his wife and his daily catch. But when an army of fanged undersea beasties invades, he realizes he may have a larger role to play...

The Call of Kerberos combines the tone (and tentacles) of Lovecraftian horror with enjoyable pulp action. Moments of jaw-dropping, splatterpunk horror mix with epic fantasy. The Twilight of Kerberos series is designed that you can jump in with any book - but I'd recommend starting with this one...
