Book Description

6 Nov 1995
A thriller involving mistaken identity, blackmail, kidnap and international crime. Becca and Daisie have been best friends for two years but their friendship has grown increasingly strained during the summer holidays before starting at different schools. Then Perdita turns up. Posh, bossy, rich Dita, not Cornish like the others but a summer visitor, an emmet, and so identical to Daisie they could be twins, doubles - even Daisie's dog Dracula has trouble telling them apart. From the moment the two girls meet, Becca is an outsider, a stooge in their games of swapping identities. But what begins as a joke to fool Dita's au pair, becomes deadly serious when Daisie goes missing. Who has taken her and why? Becca must solve this sinister mystery to prevent twice times danger turning into double death. Enid Richemont has written "The Time Tree", "The Game", "The Glass Bird", "The Magic Skateboard", "Kachunka!" and "Gemma and the Beetle People".

Review

...an intriguing thriller about the jealousies of friendship... warm-hearted, unambiguous... well-judged for the older junior/early secondary level -- The Times Educational Supplement

Daisie is Becca's best friend, they are both eleven, and Daisie has disappeared. A taut and intriguing thriller... -- Reading Time

Switching roles, mistaken identity... there is an exciting eleventh-hour climax that surprisingly resolves the high drama... -- New Books

This is a very good book and held my interest all the way through. -- Hotline Hitlist

This spirited adventure story for girls has two children (and a dog) uniting to solve a crime that baffles police. -- Independent on Sunday

From the Author

This book is set on the coast around St Just in Penwith, in the far west of Cornwall. The word 'emmet' which appears occasionally is what some Cornish people call tourists - especially when there are too many of them! It means 'ant'.

I read this book when i was about 12 and couldnt put it down, read it in one sitting. A perfect tale of adventure but with a nice girly twist! I recently re-read it aged 15 for old times sake and i think i read it in about an hour and was still just as enchanted as i was the first time round!
A great christmas present that is sure to please any young girl and i am sue that Mum or dad would enjo reading it to them too!
