It's been a long time since I read book 1 of this series "Playing With Fire"; a tale of ordinary girl Belle Jamison injected with a secret formula enabling her to become the extraordinary "Wonder Girl" with the ability to manipulate the four elements. Now Belle is not only a member of a secret paranormal society, she is also engaged and soon to be wed to the love of her life; fellow agent and jaguar shifter Rome.

Belle's control of her powers is still somewhat unstable as they respond to her emotions, and in this book Belle's emotions are definitely all over the place. Not only has Rome had all his memories of her erased from his mind, he wants to give his relationship with his ex-wife Lexis a go even as Belle is in the process of organising their wedding. Memory Man, the villain responsible for Rome's missing memories is now intent on wooing Belle himself, whilst Belle also mires herself in the equally tangled love lives of her friends Tanner and Sherridan. Of course there's also the kidnapping plots, deaths and dastardly schemes hatched by new villainess Desert Gal; who has the power to drain anything of the water it contains, and she's got plenty of other scrims (supernatural criminals with a variety of interesting abilities) on her side.

Again GS produces a fun, sassy read featuring a fun, sassy young woman trying to do the right thing and not hurt any of the good guys in the process. Belle definitely grows up a lot more in this book, yet keeps the smart mouth as protection when trying to hide the hurt Rome's actions cause. Their relationship is definitely interesting; Belle may be a stranger to Rome but his body definitely recognises her, yet he seems determined to commit to Lexis as his ex-wife manipulates the situation.

Even if you haven't read Playing with Fire, the first book about how Belle comes into her rather dangerous powers, you will enjoy this story, although I recommend the first one as well (and any other Gena Showalter book actually). In this story Rome, Belle's fiance from the first book, has his memories of her stolen by another paranormal and resists all her attempts to re-instate their relationship as he feels he should still be with his ex-wife and daughter. There are various twists and turns but we know Gena is going to give us a HEA even if it takes a while. Belle has toughened up a lot from the first book but is still really likeable and funny and her friends' characters have developed in a good way along with her. Hope there is going to be a third one!!

I absolutley loved this story - Gena Showalter is one of my favourite writers, and everything i've read from her has left me wanting to read more. This is the second book in the series, and was amazing - I couldn't put the book down, read it cover to cover in a day! It is the type of book when you can really get 'attached' to the characters who are all lovable and charming in their own ways! I would recommend this and the first book to anyone wanting an exciting and different type of read for this genre.
