This is book two in the Haven series following Once Bitten, your left off with Kita trying to get to grips with new half status.
Nathanial her maker comes under fire for this, from master of the city & decides to take matters into his own hands. A vampire contingent arrive lead by the 'Collector' has an unhealthy interest in Kita, murdered headless bodies abound, an undead necromancer collects on a debt & a bumbling witch Gill keeps spiriting Kita away so she can save Kita in the long term from a mage judge .Dark under currents throughout, there's light relief in the form of Nathaniels & Kits's slowly developing relationship, though this is marred by unscrupulous manipulations of different parties who either want Kita dead or to browbeat into submission .
This book an exhausting read, it does not stop as Kita is flung from pillar to post & again it takes the reader to a crashing finale that concludes some of her problems but opens a plethera of untied threads leading to the next book..
Book three in the series is Third Blood...enjoy....

Very good book although it takes a while to get going the sequel is even better, good characters all very flawed which makes it interesting, not as good as her other series by far but still good and definately worth reading

This is the second in this series, so I must have missed the first somewhere along the way. I think the authors Grave Witch series is a lot more concise and flows better. This vamp series is chock a block full of ideas. The abundance of them has the reader chasing after each new angle and in doing so the main storyline becomes less distinctive. The mage subplot, the shifter subplot and the vampire plot are all worthy contenders for books on their own. The combination of the three needs to be more precise and interwoven with a little more care. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy the writing K. Price produces, her creativity and her gritty characters are memorable and very entertaining.
