Review

Kate has created twenty fabulous flowers, from simple felt to sophisticated silk, perfect to adorn bags, clothing, shoes and hats. Using scraps of materials and simple sewing, they are easily made in an afternoon, and will enliven a plain garment or add glamour to an evening gown. As always, full colour photographs and clear instructions make this latest volume in the series excellent value for money and an ideal project book.-East Kent E.G. The latest book from the 'Twenty to Make' series is all about fabric flowers (obviously from the title) and is chockablock full of stunning fabric flower images to inspire you, with each design having a main image and a second idea. Would have been nice to have an image with one or two of the steps, but not essential as most of the flowers are easy to create and the instructions are well written and easy to follow. The book starts with ideas of what to do with your fabric flowers such as hairclips, curtain tieback or attached to shoe clips to make the most of ballet flats. The follows ion with information regarding findings and the basic stitches required. There are a wide variety of flowers in this little book, starting from something as quick and simple as the 'Simple Flower' through to the still easy but more time consuming 'Patterned daisy' seen on the cover. A wide variety of fabrics are used and therefore very different flowers can be created. This lovely little book is good value at an RRP of just GBP4.99 and great for all skill levels.-sewingdirectory.co.uk

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for money 22 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I having been crocheting roses for a while and wanted to try some fabric flowers. Having found a pattern on the internet that was very successful, I want more so ordered this. On the whole it is very good although I would only make 3 or 4 of the flowers included, one of which was the pattern I got from the internet. A well laid out book with good photos, this is good value for anyone looking to make some flowers but doesn't want to spend a lot on an expensive book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fabric Flowers (Twenty to Make) 16 Feb 2012

I saw this book and fancied having a go... it looked interesting. However when I received it I was disappointed if I am honest and wished I hadn't bothered. I expect it is a great book for some people and for this reason will probably pass it onto someone else who will appreciate it, but I am a visual person, I enjoy crafting, and for this reason need diagrams. I am no good at reading explanations and then putting them into practice. I expect people who are into sewing would probably find it easier than me also. The variety of flowers wasn't so great either. Horses for courses!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 3 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Lovely little book very well illustrated, lots of good ideas using different materials, I made 2 of the front cover flowers last night and I am very pleased, I used felt and a button for middle of the flower for one of them which looks really pretty and different, could be used in so many ways, broaches, hair clips, attach to a bag, bracelet, napkin ring...it's endless, hoping to do a craft fair in the summer so will be experimenting with some of these ideas, great way to spend a winter's evening would highly recommend it especially for the very low price worth every penny even if you make just one flower, hope you enjoy it as much as me. Just a little tip for the front cover flower, instructions say to cut a cardboard circle out to use as template, I used a saucer drew around double material, do it 3 times you have your 5 petals and middle section, fold in half and cut out, I'm all for making life easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a look 2 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has a good range of flower examples to make. I am quite a capable needlewoman and could manage the majority of the projects, A beginner might find it more difficult to produce a pleasing result. I will definately make some of the flowers in this book, once I have some time on my hands.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fabric flowers 5 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm Sorry to say I was not very impressed with this book, I was expecting something a little more inspiring. The designs are ok but nothing special.
For a beginner it's not a bad start design wise but there are no piece by piece diagrams and just reading the text is not easy to follow, there are only a few templates in the book which you have to photocopy and enlarge and they are almost an afterthought. Nice photos of the finished article but that's about it
If you have some sewing experienced then you don't need this book, most of the designs you could make up yourself. If you are a beginner buy something with more details.
