20th century fashion in detail 25 April 2010
By STELLA H. BRAY-CONRAD - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I am disappointed overall. I had an expectation for wonderful images and details of these images. Whereas there are some it is mainly a single shot of one area of the garment taken up close and then a tiny technical sketch to accompany. The information is good yet it too follows the pattern of just being snippet not real detail.

Eye Candy 1 May 2011

Very enjoyable read. Would have liked to have seen a full picture of the garment and then a few shots focused on details. Seeing the detail without a view of the entire garment makes it a little more difficult to appreciate the whole.

On the whole a good investment for those who like fashion and history.
Just O.K. 23 Mar. 2014

No photos of the full piece-only close ups of a detail and a line drawing. And the bare minimum of photos -this could have been PACKED with inspiration. Instead it is just has a bit of inspiration here & there. Disappointment.
The title says it "details" 16 Mar. 2014

For anyone who gave this great book a lousy review, maybe you did not read the title of this book. Details, meaning only a portion of the garment has been photographed, and a sketch of the entire garment has been provided. Sure, I would have loved to see photos of the entire garments such as the "Nineteenth-Century Fashion In Detail" book by Lucy Johnston. This book is worth the money, and yes, it shows pictures of details accompany by sketches/illustrations of the whole garment.

This is a great picture book. It would be good on anyone's coffee table. For the seamstress it provides inspiration.
