Book Description

21 Jan 2010

Lara has always had an overactive imagination. Now she wonders if she is losing her mind. Normal twenty-something girls just don't get visited by ghosts! But inexplicably, the spirit of Lara's great aunt Sadie - in the form of a bold, demanding Charleston-dancing girl - has appeared to make one last request: Lara must track down a missing necklace Sadie simply can't rest without.

Lara's got enough problems of her own. Her start-up company is floundering, her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, and she's just been dumped by the love of her life.

But as Lara spends time with Sadie, life becomes more glamorous and their treasure hunt turns into something intriguing and romantic. Could Sadie's ghost be the answer to Lara's problems and can two girls from different times end up learning something special from each other?

Product Description

"Best read with a cold glass of wine at sunset (with tissues)" (The Times)

"This is Kinsella at her quirkiest and best, and Lara's gradual appreciation of the fact that there's a bright young thing trapped inside every ageing body adds real pathos to this otherwise light-hearted and sweetly comic novel" (Daily Telegraph)

"Kinsella's latest offering is a classic chick-lit read: light, entertaining and often funny too. This is essential reading for anyone looking for a dose of escapism this summer" (Sunday Express)

"Wonderfully witty tale...You'll love this quirky read - it's just as girly, exciting and fabulously funny as Sophie's other gems *****" (Heat)

"A captivating page-turner" (Woman)

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise 9 Oct 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you expected a typical chick lit book and were put off by the whole ghost of Aunt Sadie bit, thinking it cheesy and put it down... pick it up and keep reading to the end! There's more to this book than meets the eye. A life lesson with valuable insight into the importance finding out the history of people in our lives before it's too late and we're left with only saying an awkward goodbye at the funeral. I feel like I should call up my Mother and ask her to tell me what her life was like in her 20s whilst she can still remember them like they were yesterday. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars TWENTIES GIRL 22 Feb 2011
What a fantastic book, the best one I've read for a while. Just couldn't put it down, even woke up in the middle of the night to read it!
The only downside for me was that it had to end!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit weird to start but truly fantastic overall 24 May 2010
I was a bit unsure at the beginning with the 'ghost' part, thought it wouldn't be for me but I really loved it. A true Sophie Kinsella style book, cant put it down and desperate to know what happens. I love all her books, this one is a well worth the read. As clever as ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 21 Dec 2009
By Cathy
This was one of those books that you're desperate to finish as it's so good you want to see how it will end, but you don't want it to end as it's so good and you're enjoying it! Well written, funny, emotional, just brilliant! It encompasses friendship, romance, work, family, everything! I went for an early night and ended up putting the book down 2 and a half hours later as I was so absorbed. I can't recommend it enough. Another brilliant offering from Sophie Kinsella.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy this book, you won't regret it! 10 July 2009
I've just finished this book and all i want to do is start it all over again! I sat down with this book and hardly put it down, except to sleep, i even read it while eating! It has everything a good book needs, fantastic characters, two love stories, mysteries, family drama and the perfect ending. Each character is so well written that they all remain in your mind clearly afterwards. There are loads of historically interesting and accurate details given to the reader by Sadie. This is one book i'm definitely recommending to every female member of my family and friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mmmmm 9 July 2010
Like The Undomestic Goddess, Can You Keep a Secret? and Remember Me?, Twenties Girl is not a Sophie Kinsella Shopaholic tells the story of Lara and her great-aunt Sadie Lancaster and the search for a missing dragonfly necklace.

It's a completely daft story till about page 341 - and I wasn't all together sure whether I would ever really care enough, but then it all hots up, and things fall into place, and character become real, and emotions so raw - that by the time the big reveal plays out on page 391 I had my heart in my throat and a tear down my cheek pretty much till the end.

It's not my favourite ever Kinsella book, but keep going and you too will be thinking of your old relatives in a whole new light.
