Product Description

Compass 2 from Twelve South

Portable stand for iPad Air and iPad mini.

Compass 2 is a clever, multi-use stand that works with any iPad Air, iPad mini or iPad. This compact stand serves as a stable easel that holds your iPad in portrait or wide-screen mode. Use it for hands-free viewing and interacting with iPad. Flip down the secondary leg and Compass 2 becomes a comfortable typing stand. Machined from heavy gauge steel, Compass 2 folds flat and includes a soft travel sleeve so you can take it everywhere your iPad roams.

Put the “face” in FaceTime.

Why do you need a Compass 2 stand? One reason is that it holds your iPad or iPad mini in portrait mode, which is more natural for FaceTime because your head is a portrait. Compass 2 holds iPad both vertically and horizontally, which means you can FaceTime in widescreen when you’re sporting your sombrero. Because this stand elevates iPad, the camera sits higher, so you don’t have to slouch when you chat.

Three legs for more stability.

It’s basic geometry: The taller, wider angle of Compass 2 is more stable than cases and covers that fold into stands. You won’t have to worry about knocking your iPad over when you tap the screen to launch an app, play a video or swipe a page. The back leg of Compass operates like a car door. Flip it open and it stays open, close it and it stays closed.

Elevate your iPad out of the spilt milk.

Another thing Compass 2 does that case-style stands don’t do is elevate your iPad up out of the spilt milk zone, batter and other ingredients involved in your kitchen adventures. Take Compass 2 into the workshop to build your Kickstarter project or move it into the studio where the glue and glitter roam free, knowing iPad is perched up out of the mess.

Popcorn sold separately.

Place iPad or iPad mini on its side, in landscape position, and Compass 2 becomes the ultimate portable theatre. Enjoy your favourite Netflix, Hulu, YouTube videos or stream feature-length movies in iTunes anywhere you go, while keeping your hands free for popcorn and drinks. Compass 2 has soft rubber feet to protect the surface you set it on. Rubber along the legs protects the surface of your iPad.

An instant typing stand.

The ultimate multi-tasking tool, Compass 2 features a fold-away secondary leg that creates a comfortable typing stand. Typing on iPad or iPad mini is that much more comfortable, making it easy to put in long stretches in Keynote, Pages, or Numbers without neckache that comes from working on your lap. It’s a small, totally mobile tool that can be used on planes, in airports, hotels, coffee shops, cafes and even in boardrooms.

Original review:
I replaced an older plastic stand with this. I'd wanted one for a while and decided to treat myself.
I love the engineering but it's not as stable as I thought it would be with my iPad, pressing the home button with the iPad in landscape causes the iPad to move off the 2 flip out supports. Hence the 4 star score.

Edit:
I've been using this stand for a couple of days now and after lusting after it for so long I can't be more disappointed.
With my iPad Air in landscape, if I press anywhere in the top right or left of the screen the ipad starts to pivot off the stand.
It's near impossible to press the home button without the ipad comming completly off the stand, the only way is to have you fingers behind the ipad whilst pressing the button with your thumb.
The rubber feet are too slippy, the stand can move across a Formica type surface whilst in use resulting in one of the three legs starting to close. I'm continually having to reopen one of the 3 legs to prevent the tripod from folding ( or at least that's how it feels)

I reduced my rating to 2 stars sadly because as I said I really wanted one of these for a long time.

Looks like I'm going to experience Amazons return policy for the first time.

A very solid piece of kit and one that feels and looks great.
Very portable in its carrybag and definitely worth the extra money for the stability - I use it to hold my ipad mini (in its smart case) while typing and no amount of prodding will topple it.
It is definitely worth the money.

Love it, very good, does what it should. Have deducted 1 star as can be a little unstable when tapping the top right/left corners (as only supported in the middle), but as a stand, would purchase another.

Best iPad/tablet stand on the market 30 Mar 2014
By Bill.S.S. - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Silver Verified Purchase
This stand along with my Logitech Bluetooth Easy-switch K811 keyboard and iPad Air has allowed me to leave the laptop at work. The stand is beautifully built and nicely designed. I give it 4 stars instead of five only because it is not as wide at the base and therefor stable as I would have preferred.

Worthwhile Purchase to Save Your Back 30 July 2014
By Wayne F. Chin - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Red Verified Purchase
Yes, it's expensive. It's well-built, well-designed, easy to set up and folds up compactly. The stand allows me to use my iPad (with its Smart Cover) at an angle that allows me to sit up properly. I think it'll help me in the long term to maintain good posture. I can also type faster and more accurately when I'm using the stand. I'm glad I bought the stand.

Nice quality of the metal work but the overall design ... 7 July 2014
By R Keyslay - Published on Amazon.com

Nice quality of the metal work but the overall design is very poor in that the stand, and therefore the iPad, is not stable. The stand is not heavy and moves back every time you touch the iPad. It also wobbles a lot and the iPad wants to fall over. I returned it and made do with the Apple plug in stand.

Works great for presentations. Can use landscape or portrait. Folds up nicely to fit in briefcase. Also it's very stable.
