4.0 out of 5 stars Spoiled by a design error 16 Dec 2010
A beautiful case for a wonderful product but spoilt by a design fault in the leather supports holding the bottom of the iPad. These supports are too high and therefore (a) it is difficult to close the top (b) in the portrait position the elastic band covers the menus. The left hand support also prevents the main on-off switch from being reached. Twelve South's suggestion is to push the iPad down further into the leather supports. The rigidity of the leather prevents that from being a solution. The total result is that (a) when open in the landscape position the iPad dangles inelegantly over the right hand edge of its case (b) because it is usually difficult to close, the top zip will eventually break away at the top left corner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book-book Review 20 Nov 2011
By DickArt
Product arrived as promised. Visually & aesthetically striking - when people realise what it is they are impressed. As a 'user' there are a few criticisms: (1) the iPad can slip out of the Book-book when it's open - the upstand of the zipper edge is insufficient to stop the iPad sliding out (&being damaged) - be careful! (2) there's no even, minimal, storage for the odd piece or slip of paper; (3) with the book-book open it's difficult to insert the power cable connector; (4) the string-n-button arrangement works quite well but is fiddly and the string, packed inside when the book-book is closed, leaves a mark on the tablet screen (this can be cleaned off but it's annoying).
Someone needs to produce an iPad case that allows easy safe use in either landscape or portrait modes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cover .... Worth the price 14 Dec 2011
Great case, though I didn't hold the case before getting it here on amazon - the cover is a hard back, (with soft interior). So far everyone that has seen it believes it's an old book. Really lets you hide your iPad in plain sight. But obviously adds a lot of bulk, and weight too.

NB - There is no way that the case can be used with the forward facing camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Design 18 May 2012
By Seb
Truly unique design. I've had many compliments. Nobody would suspect this case contains an ipad - the leather each side of the zip even has page-like embosing to fool the eye.

Well thought out, high quality design.

Very happy indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book lover's wish come true 8 Jan 2012
I love this concept of a bookcover for my iPad. It not only looks like a real leather bound book, but works just like a sketchpad note book. I've certainly received a few approving (envious) looks when I've opened it to reveal a working iPad inside. I've just completed a five week trip and my iPad is intact and protected in my BookBook.Twelve South BookBook Leather Case for iPad - Red

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but some flaws... 1 Mar 2013
We had been looking at various cases for our iPad. We wanted something that would:

1) Protect the back. If it is sat down on surfaces with any dust or grit, and it is moved, the back will scratch.
2) Protect the screen. We wanted something to fold over the screen to keep it clean (well, as clean as a touchscreen device ever is...
3) Will look good!
4) Will provide some protection if dropped.
5) Will act as a stand.

The BookBook case does all of these things very well.

Just a few things that could be better:

1) The zip is stiff and doesn't slide well. A few people have reported zip problems. We don't really zip ours up, because we use it a lot. Not a huge problem.
2) The tabs of leather that are stitched on the spine are a bit tacky; they're just not as nice as the brown leather than faces the front and back of the case, which is lovely.
3) The egde of the open zip makes getting at the buttons for standby and volume a bit tricky, as is getting access to the headphone socket. Not a huge problem, you just have to remember where they are and fold the zip back with your finger to get access.
4) I understand that the Apple cases feature a magnetic element in the screen cover that puts the iPad to sleep and wakes it up - nothing like that here.
5) It does slide out if you accidentally pick it up the wrong way. As the ipad screem auto switches to look like it's the right way up, this is easier to do that you might think, especially for our kids.

.... but we really love:

1) The lining. It's suede, padded and just great quality.
2) The look of the whole unit - really well made, nicely finished.
3) The protection. It's quite sturdy and well put together.
4) It works really well as a stand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool 13 Jan 2013

I've had the cover for a year and it still looks good and does its job well. I don't use much of the features like standing the ipad up, but the book itself has retained jts good looks despite being made of a paper-type material.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks good but not very functional 28 Oct 2012

I wanted something a bit different for my iPad to protect it and look good.
After using for a few weeks and getting annoyed at having to take it out to take pics I bought a Forefront case for a fraction of the price. Much better!
