This is one occasion where substance is every bit as good as style. The leather is thick and of good quality, and the zipped part is supple and looks like it will stand the test of time. Your MacBook Pro is only held in place by 2 elastic corner pieces for the lid, but as your MBP sits within the lip of the zip, it is nice and secure ... even at an angle. I don't know what the inner lining material is, some kind of soft felt ... very good at protecting the contents.
I have now had the BookBook for about 3 months, and I took my MBP out for the first time, and it is still in pristine condition. Everywhere I go I get very positive comment about it, and whilst it has had a few scrapes and knocks in the car, the MBP has remained snug and safe, and the few scrapes on the cover of the BookBook only adds to the appeal.
Another benefit is that the BookBook protects you from what can be a pretty warm laptop.
All in all, I love it, and have bought the ipad version as well.
I'm not so sure I subscribe to the theory that it provides added protection because it doesn't look like a laptop ... maybe in the house, on a bookshelf and there are more enticing things on offer ... probably doesn't work so well if you have the charging lead plugged in!
Recently in the local Apple Service Store the technician cast his optic over the BookBook asking me why, where, how much and also commented that it seemed sturdy and useful.
It is not cheap however, it combines style, build quality and practicality. I am very pleased with this purchase.
