Book Description

28 Feb 2006
Babies need it, parents want it-- the call for a good night's sleep has parents everywhere looking for a solution like this: an easy-to-follow plan from a renowned baby sleep specialist that delivers on the promise of its title. There is no bigger issue for healthy infants than sleeping through the night. In this simple, straightforward book, Suzy Giordano presents her amazingly effective "Limited- Crying Solution" that will get any baby to sleep for twelve hours at night and three hours in the day by the age of twelve weeks old. Giordano is the mother of five children and one of the most sought-after baby sleep specialists in the country. The Washington Post calls her a baby sleep "guru" and "an underground legend in the Washington area for her ability to teach newborns how to achieve that parenting nirvana: sleeping through the night." Her sleep plan has been tested with singletons, twins, triplets, babies with special needs, and colicky babies and it has never failed. Whether you are pregnant, first-time parents, or parents who seek a different path with your second or third child, anyone can benefit from the Baby Coach s popular system of regular feeding times, twelve hours of sleep at night and three hours of sleep during the day, and the peace of mind that comes with taking the parent and child out of a sleep- deprived world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked in 3 weeks 22 May 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I'm a single mum of 15 week old twin girls and I started using this technique when they were about 10 weeks old. As of 7 days ago, they've been sleeping through the night. Although not 12 hours yet, (10.5-11) they go 12 hours between bottles and feed just 4 times in the day. Their adjusted age is 11 weeks due to being premature and they know the difference between night and day.

They wake at 8 and I have smiles upon smiles then feed at 830, 1230, 430 and 830. Bed is then 9:15.

Life is a LOT more do-able and I'm enjoying my babies now.

The first night I used this book, I went from 2 fees to just 1 feed in 24 hours, the transition period can be tough and there's some crying but stick with it. 3 weeks of added sleep deprivation may sound tough but seriously it's gone in a flash and now I'm reaping the benefits. They even have 2 x 2-2.5 hour naps and a 1 hour nap per day.

I'm sure there will be some hiccups along the way, I'm prepared for that but this book worked for me. The 4 hour feedings, are in my eyes essential as you can structure naps and your life around feedings. And yes sometimes the babies are cranky but aren't all babies? They are gaining weight like anything (9oz per week at the moment) so yep. Healthy happy, well fed, babies and a healthy, happy, well rested mum.

Oh and for the record. I'm not and never have been the attachment parenting type, I'm ok with hearing crying and not rushing to them and as a result they have self soothed from an early age and it hasn't affected them one bit. They are happy to play alone and to watch TV, they have heaps of attention from me don't worry. So if you're like me then this book is for you. If you rush to your babies every whimper and want them attached to you so that you can't get anything done, it's not for you.

i disagree with some methods in this book. As breastfeeding mother I won't let my baby scream and wait hours for food. Just not for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin 4 July 2013
What's great about this book is that it is short and to the point, and if you do exactly what it says, it works.
The author claims a 100% success rate with the babies she has trained to sleep using this method, which I was initially sceptical about: it's quite some claim.
The one proviso she makes is that babies must be weigh at least nine pounds before you start sleep training them. My son turned nine pounds at about ten weeks old, and he was sleeping eleven hours straight through (without even a dreamfeed) when he was eleven weeks and three days old. So it took about ten days to sleep train him. It was almost miraculous. He has continued to sleep 11-12 hours through the night ever since, even during a spell in hospital for surgery and recuperating afterwards. Having said that, I think we were well suited to this method because my son was already on a good feeding routine, which helped. If you aren't on a good feeding routine already it could take you a few days longer. I am also not into attachment parenting: if you do AP, this absolutely isn't the book for you.
