Review

It might still be summer, but if you want to finish the adorable figures (including reindeers) from this Yuletide tale, you need to get those needles clacking now. --Saga Magazine August 2011

Fiona Goble has created a collection of charming characters based on Clement C. Moore's 1822 poem, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas. From Father Christmas himself to the reindeer and family which feature in the poem, these patterns would make lovely decorations or gifts for a fellow knitter or a special child. --The Knitter October 2011

Ah, who doesn't love a knitting pun? Ok, some are a little nauseating but, incredibly, this one I had not come across before, so I admit, I did emit a chuckle. From the author of the phenomenally popular Knit Your Own Royal Wedding comes this knitted version of the 19th century poem by Clement Clarke Moore, without which we would never have associated old St Nick with a reindeer or sleigh! Luckily for us he did because the knitted reindeer here (all eight! With names!) are brilliant. This hilarious combination of storybook and cheeky knitting patterns means come Christmas Eve you can re-enact the poem with all the characters present! --Knitting Magazine December 2011

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Twas the Knits Before Christmas - Fiona Goble 12 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book as I love this poem and have collected many different versions of it over the years. When I saw this book, I was very excited and ordered it immediately. It arrived very quickly and I was so pleased with it. The patterns are easy to follow, with professional results and Fiona's quirky style. The book itself is delightful and I am working my way through it so that when I read it I will have the characters to bring it to life. I have already made the chubby and slightly tipsy Father Christmas and have just started on Mamma. I have absolutely no complaints - only a request: Fiona, if you ever read this, do you think you could add a mouse to the collection?! Thanks!

This book is good fun. It has straightforward patterns but these are only part of the book's appeal. The poem and illustrations are lovely.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing!!!! 3 Aug 2011
By Susie Q VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have looked forward to this book since ordereing it in June. It arrived today and the pattterns are so very disappointing!.There is nothing new or unusual, just basic figures and not very Christmassy at that. The book itself is beautifully presented with lovely pictures and a 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' theme running through it. Hard backed and beautifully illustrated but sadly for beginners or older children. It would make an excellent present for a child with a birthday leading up to Christmas.Certainly not for me!!!It is the first book I have ever returned to Amazon that is how strongly I feel about it as I know I would never use the patterns.
