Book Description

12 Mar 2011
Featuring more than 50 simple, authentic recipes, Tuscany is a culinary journey exploring local food traditions, producers, world-class wines, including Chianti, and ingredients such as truffles, artisan salami, and lardo di Colonnata (a type of preserved pork fat). Beyond the rural landscape studded with cypress trees, gently rolling hills and traditional farmhouses that everybody knows, Tuscany is renowned for a remarkable culinary tradition that still exists to this day. Over 150 specially commissioned colour photographs reveal a side of the region and its food that many tourists never experience, providing a unique visual journey around one of the world's best food regions.

The book is organized by province, with the recipes integrated throughout the book to reveal their true origins. Authentic favourites include Pappardelle all'Anatra (Pappardelle with Duck), Pappa col Pomodoro (Tomato and Bread Soup) and Castagnaccio alla Pistoiese (Pistoia Chestnut Cake), and every recipe is accompanied with easy-to-follow instructions, whether for a kitchen novice or a seasoned chef.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book If just for the pictures 22 Aug 2011
Great Book with lots of good recipes, but like a lot of books of today there seemed to be lots of irrelevant pictures, but this is just at first glance. Once you understand that the writer is setting the scene, trying to create an ambiance, it all becomes clear, makes sense and adds to the pleasure of the cooking experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful photos and recipes 21 Jun 2011
A warm journey into authentic food of the Tuscan region, supplemented by beautiful photographs. The book highlights dishes from the various regions. I was drawn to traditional dishes of times past which have been made trendy over recent times, as well as the more well known dishes.

Not a very comprehensive tour of Tuscany - region's wines seem entirely lacking - one or two interesting recipes... Disappointed, especially so had I bought it at full price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Photos, Great Recipes 19 Oct 2011

This book is more than a cookbook, it is a history of regional cooking in Tuscany. The photos are amazing, and the recipes are not complicated. A must have for Italy and Italian food lovers.

Very good book. Did come with one ripped page in the shrink wrap, but very minor.

I own several of Phiadon's books, The Silver Spoon, Vefa's Kitchen, 1080 Recipes. All are top notch. This is much thinner than those, but still just as good.

You will need to be creative with substitutions as some ingredients are hard to find in the US.
