When it comes to headsets, I am a sceptic and before I buy any, I will trawl the internet for reviews, as well as read all the amazon reviews!! In fact I took three hours reading reviews on various websites, before I bought these headsets!
What initially impressed and enticed me to buy these, were the good build quality, excellent sound quality and comfortability, along with a reasonable price. I have a flight simulator and so comfort is especially important on long flights over 2 hours!!
Indeed, these head sets, so far, live up to their claims. I've now had the sets about a month and they are proving as durable as I would have expected - bear in mind that any headset needs to be treated with some care and respect!! The sound quality is particularly good, picking up sounds I hadn't been able to hear on my previous Saitek GH20's, which, incidentally, broke! As far as comfort goes, they are about as comfortable as you are going to get for the price... They are indeed more comfortable than the Saitek headset and I have had no headaches from them, nor do they hurt my ears, as the cups go right over the ears. I have large ears, along with earrings, which used to catch and get squashed when using the Saitek ones!!
Setting up is easy!! Just plug them in and away you go... Yes you will need to configure your Sound in the Control Panel in Windows, or by right clicking on the speaker icon in the bottom right of Desktop, but that was easy!!
For all those who use Track IR in their gaming (I have Track IR 4) the Track Clip Pro fits well to the head band, after you have resized the headset. That said, if you have a tiny head, then with the Track Clip Pro attached, the headset may be a bit lose.
The microphone is excellent and I have had good reports from anyone I've spoken to on TeamSpeak or Skype, who say they can hear me with clarity. What is also great, is that there is little or no feedback from the mic into your ears. The microphone is on a fully flexible, rubberised arm/boom, which is, indeed, very flexible and very adaptable... If you want to take a drink, just push the arm away from your mouth, then push it back again after. The arm also rotates from a join in the ear piece.
The head band is padded and is comfortable to wear. The ear cups are padded and very comfortable.
The wire is attached in two places. Firstly, the wire comes from the ear piece and attaches via a PS2 socket, about 12 (30cms) from your ear. This is great, as you can simply unplug it to get up and walk about, without taking the headsets off. It then attaches into the coloured phono sockets on your computer. The wire is long enough to stretch to the back of the computer, although I have sockets at the front of my PC. 2 inches (5cms) below the PS2 socket, are the controls, which contain a volume wheel and a mic on/off switch. There is also a tie clip on the back to attach the control to your clothing.
For the price, these are an excellent buy and so far, they are proving themselves to be good. I also looked at proper aviation headsets, but at a price range of between £200 - £800, I gave them a miss!! I also looked at more expensive ordinary sets, but really couldn't see the point/justification in paying over the odds and I'm glad I didn't!!!
