Good backup battery for a laptop 30 Aug. 2012

I bought this with some reservations. I wasn't sure if the tips would fit my asus n82jv. I took a chance and bought it since it still had a usb connection I could use for my samsung phone. The usb works for any usb powered device, so that's a plus. I was happy to see that one of the tips fit my laptop and my ac adapter will re-charge the external battery device. I must say that my regular laptop battery will power my laptop for about 4 and a half hours or about 1 and half if I am gaming. I have a 6 cell 48wh 10.8v 4400mah battery and mt ac adapter is 90watt 19v. The external battery says it's 125wh 15-20v 33600mah. I know that some of the specs are confusing to some, so hopefully this will give people some idea of how well it works. I charged it up completely and plugged it in without the regular laptop battery in the laptop. It showed that the battery was missing and the ac adapter was plugged in. No biggie there, it just doesn't tell you how much time you have left on your battery. I went through a typical day of computer use. I surfed the web and watched some youtube for about an hour and a half. Then I watched a 2 hour movie, played burnout paradise city for an hour, watched some hulu for about a hour. That's 5 and half hours already, which is way better than my battery would have lasted. Of course I should expect this since the external battery is rated about 3 times better than my normal battery. I let my computer just sit for about 2 hours, since 5 hours is way longer than I usually sit in front of my computer. I came back, and it was still on, checked my email, watched some us open tennis and surfed the web. All in all I had about 8 hours of continuous use and about 3 hours of idle time before it ran out of juice. Realistically it lasted about 3 times what my regular battery could do. So the main thing you sould look at is the 125wh rating. Mine on my regular battery is 48wh so 3 times as much is 144wh, which is fairly close to the external battery rating. I know some people look at the 33600mah and think it should last 8 times as long, but that is dependant on the tasks you are performing. Videos and gaming take a lot more power. I am very happy with the exeternal battery and I would recommend this to anyone who needs some extra power on the go.

One other thing, the compatibility of the tips are pretty good. I know it fits my asus n82jv and u30j, which has the same ac adapter as a lot of other asus models. Plus there are 15 volt,16v, 3 18.5-19v, 5 19v, 2 19-19.5v, 2 20v. They are all various sizes and has the the most common 2.5mm inside and 5.5mm outside, and 2mm inside 5mm outside tips. the tips range from tiny to super fat, I didn't measure them, but I know one of the tips will fit most major brands. So, unless you have some off brand weird size plug, then one of the tips should fit. And if the tip fits your laptop then there is a tip to fit your ac adapter to recharge the external battery.

Worth the money--- 18 Sept. 2012

This product is well worth the money and lasts several hours and can do multiple devices at one time... So if you have an I-Phone or Jet Pack for WIFI and a laptop you will have no issue keeping them all running for several hours! They give you quite a bit of adapters to cover just about everything out there and it has a built in USB port as well! Really cool, well worth the price....Rick

Works well with my Lenovo Twist 17 Feb. 2013
By Paul C - Published on Amazon.com

I use a Lenovo Twist as a second/travel computer to supplement a laptop work station. The one i have has a mechanical hard drive and I5 processor, so battery life is limited to 3-4 hours, not really enough for many overseas flights which often take over 24 hours total, some legs are more than 14 hours, and it can be hard to find charging stations in many airports.
This battery pack is perfect for extending work time and entertainment (mostly as a kindle reader). It has good life, I can run the Twist for over two days of heavy intermittent use. Works great working out of a vehicle as well.

It is relatively compact (about the size of a short paperback novel) and light (1.75 lbs). It came with 23 different adapter plugs (these are all round laptop types) including the standard 20 volt D8 and M14 plugs needed for the Lenovo Thinkpad series. There is also a standard USB port for your phone, camera, etc..

It uses your laptop charger to recharge, so you don't have to carry a separate power supply. Simple, practical, handy size, and good price. I am very happy with this unit.

Seems to work great 22 May 2012

I've had this for 2 days now and it seems to work great. I have a power hungry 17" dual hard drive laptop and it's been keeping it running for going on 4 hours now and it still has 2 out of 5 bars left on the battery meter. My internal laptop battery is still at 100% power, once this external battery runs out the laptop will switch to the internal battery. This should give me around 6 hours of total battery time which is a lot for a high power laptop.

cable length, charger, and tips 9 Jan. 2013
By Someone Who Cares About Product Quality - Published on Amazon.com
I just got this product and it is great so far. The bottom left is an LCD screen that tells you how many volts it is delivering (e.g. 15 or 19 or whatever). It auto-senses to do that task so there are no switches to set. That is really nice. And, if you press the little button next to it, up to 6 lights will illuminate to show you the charge remaining in its battery. Good stuff.

Cable Length) Here was my problem. There is a cable that connects between the battery and the tip of your choice. The cable is only 4 feet. I wanted a batter that could sit on the ground beneath my laptop computer, which is on a stand. I needed 5 feet. I thought I'd buy another cable but, as best as I can determine from googling, this cable seems to have proprietary ends. I found the manufacturer in China (Apokin.com) but I can't find an email address for them. Hope 4 feet is good enough for you.

Charger) People wonder how to charge THIS battery (not your laptop, etc.). There is another collection of tips that go between your laptop's charger and this battery. This product does not come with a charger. You use your product's existing charger. I'd rather it have its own charger than me worrying about another set of tips, but it is ok.

Tips) It did have the tip for my Asus laptop. And another product. So that was good. Now, I saw another charger company let you contact them for more tips if yours wasn't in the box. This company's one page instruction sheet has no contact info, and not even their name (Apokin). Don't count on any other tips. I still like this product because of the LCD screen and battery-life-remaining button, but you'll take your chances on whether your tip is there. It probably will be there but no guarantee.

Instructions) Typical "made in China" translated instruction sheet that reads poorly. But, if you understand what I wrote above about not having a charger, I don't think you need instructions.
