Undiscovered gem? 26 May 2010
By G. Dack
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a lovely relaxing (in the most part!) and slightly dreamy CD. Shoormal originate from the Shetland isles & their name, I think, refers to the place in between the sea and the land so I could be pretentious & say thus their music lies between mainstream folk & Shetland folk! So much of Island music is a bit of an acquired taste but not the material here. Shoormal feature three female chanteuses, each with distinctive voices, backed up by an excellent band of 5 talented musicians. The CD as a whole is very restful with some idyllic three-part harmonies. For me the track "Turning Tide" stands out - the CD is worth buying for this alone and it also has the advantage of introducing you to some Shetland Dialect (Foula?). Take a chance, buy this, you'll love it!

Amazing 29 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
I've been a fan of Shoormal since they released their first CD 'Indigo Skies' in 2000, This album 'Turning Tide' is an absolutely fantastic follow on to the the two already released albums; 'Indago Skies' and 'Migrant'. The mix of Donna, Joyce and Freda's different voice tones are medicine for the soul... The musical capabilities of the musicians are so good, and so interesting to listen to. Especially Trevors God given talent on the guitar, & Archers excellent versatility and style throughout the album. Every musician is absolutely essential to the album though. A fantasic album instrumentally and vocally. A must have.
