This is a beautiful book from beginning to end. David Blayney Brown has written an introduction of ten pages providing historicity of Turner's works from 'Architecture to Landscape'. Turner's lifetime was the classic age of English watercolour. Turner did not just use watercolours, when in Paris he used gouache and coloured paper in 'The Hotel de Ville and Pont d'Arcole in 1833. In Louviers, he used Gouache, pen and ink and pencil on paper to create 'The High Street with a Diligence'. Following the introduction, the reader is treated to over 100 pages of Turner's works from his early works to artworks he created at home and abroad. It is important to emphasise that this book is in full colour and I have no hesitation in recommending it as an utterly pleasurable indulgent read.
