Shutdown management is project management of a special kind: managing the repair, replacement or maintenance of critical systems. Manufacturing and process plants, computer systems, airliners, and many other systems must be regularly closed down or taken out of service for planned maintenance operations. This book provides a complete shutdown project planning guide along with a new, detailed model of excellence and step-by-step project guide. In a critical field, this book shows the maintenance manager or project leader how to get the job done correctly. It covers all aspects of major maintenance project planning, minimizing downtime and improving maintenance schedules. It covers projects ranging from weekend overhauls through to complete plant rebuilds. It comes with detailed check-lists and a new step-by-step project guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this excellent book 1 Jan 2010

As a Turnaround management instructor I have many good books related to the subject matter. But this book is the best of all; well written and well researched. The author approaches the subject from a strategic vision but also with practical down to earth useful examples for the practitioner.
I use it as a basic texbook for my courses on Oil & Gas Turnaround Planning and found that my students also enjoy the approach. As a teacher or reader you can go from general to particular details without losing the essence of the idea.
I highly recommend this book for all maintenance, operations and plant Engineers people but also for project management personnel because most of the chapters also apply to project management, specially when integrating turnarounds within capital projects.
