5.0 out of 5 stars Turn Redundancy into Opportunity, 22 Sep 2003
This review is from: Turn Redundancy to Opportunity : Proven Techniques and Programmes for Taking Charge of Your Own Future (How to Books) (Paperback)
I purchased this book after having heard the author speak on the radio. Having been made redundant, it was just what I needed. I found the book both interesting and informative and for the first time in the three months since redundancy, I actually felt positive about my chances of future employment. It's inspiring and not patronising and I particularly liked all the different avenues which I could explore. Being a bloke, I am a bit one track minded but this book opened me up to think of other ways to get work such as writing spec letters. That's what I did and I had a couple of interviews. Now I'm back in work. Great stuff!

Cringe worthy, generally.

The book lacks any real substance above that of common sense. I do not want to "express my anger" by "screaming into a pillow" as is suggested or to "draw any images, colours or forms of where I am in my life at this particular point".

What I do want is practical ideas, tools and inspiration. I didn't find them here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Redundant Book, 11 July 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Turn Redundancy to Opportunity : Proven Techniques and Programmes for Taking Charge of Your Own Future (How to Books) (Paperback)
I bought this book for advice, having recently been made redundant. I was greatly disappointed. The book has no substance. There are no case-studies demonstrating the effectiveness of the advice offered. Ideas are not properly developed and most of the pages are taken up by long bullet-point lists that only serve to make the book thicker. At a time when looking after the pennies really does matter, my advice would be 'Don't waste them on this book!'.
