Biography

Reel Big Fish was one of the legions of Southern California ska-punk bands to edge into the mainstream following the mid-’90s success of No Doubt and Sublime. Like most of their peers, the band was distinguished by their hyperkinetic stage shows, juvenile humor, ironic covers of new wave pop songs, and metallic shards of ska. The group cultivated an underground following that broke into ... Read more in Amazon's Reel Big Fish Store

This, I feel, is Reel Big Fish's best work. Although a lot of the songs are taken from their previous release, Everything Sucks, they have been completely re-recorded, and it came out a treat. Many of the songs on this album are live favourites, and really do show what Reel Big Fish are all about. Stand-out songs include Beer, Everything Sucks, Trendy, She has a Girlfriend Now, and the anthemic Sellout. If you like Less Than Jake, Mad Caddies, or just love lively, jumpy ska-punk, then YOU NEED THIS RECORD!!!!

This is a great album, each tune is catchy and you'll be singing it for days. There are some great lines in the lyrics.
Towards the end, it starts to draw away from the comical ska and goes more quiet and not as upbeat. Shame. Still, lots of great tracks and the album is rythmically excellent. Well worth its price!

I first heard Reel Big Fish's third album,Why Do They Rock So Hard, and thought it was one of the best cds I'd ever heard... until I listened to Turn The Radio Off. Orange County's finest are on top form here, with some of the best horn lines ever recorded. Songs range from the jokey 'Trendy', to the pensive 'I'll Never Be', and the just plain hilarious 'She Has A Girlfriend Now'. If you are a fan of ska and don't have this album, then buy it. If you are new to the ska-punk scene, then this album is a perfect initiation.

Reel Big Fish are one of the cleverest bands around and this CD shows them off extreemly well. They combine Ska, Rock, Pop into an infectious grove that seems a bit off the wall at first, but works. The essence of the music is Ska but it is arranged around heavy rock chords and big brass arrangements. The songs are complicated and shift in tempo and feel from fast to slow from Rock to Reggae from hard to soft. It will definately give you ear drums a work out. The show peice is Girlfriend, a fun and frisky song about off the wall relationship problems (listen & you will understand) which has all of the best elements (infectious off beat, big brass arrangements, change in feel through out the song). Real Big Fish also delve into instrumental mayhem with a great bouncy Ska stomp called 241. More laid back but powerful tunes come in the form of Snoop Doggy which has a mountain range of changes through out the song.
Turn the Radio Off is and excellent CD for anyone who likes either Ska music or the more Blink 182 style of Rock. They combine the best parts of this and have come up with a unique format. The CD, however does delve into areas of band language which does not bother me, may bother others. Saying that, I cannot reccomend this CD high enough it is fantastic. Oh yea, they can also play it live just as well so If you can catch them live, do it.

I've been listening to Reel Big Fish for about 2 years now, and this is by far the best recording they have done. It's one of those CD's that you could listen to a 1000 times, then be quite happy to listen to it again. Each song bounces along, with great horns, guitars and funky bass lines. The blend of pop/ska/punk/rock mix perfectly. There are so many bands around at the minute with this type of sound, and Reel Big Fish have it down to a fine art. This CD is worth every penny, I certainly got my moneys worth from it.

Never Before have I been so happy to see that little cardboard CD-shaped box arrive with 'amzon.co.uk' plastered across the front!
When it comes to Ska/Punk Reel Big Fish have got it all! Catchy tunes and funny lyrics! I can't say I could hve asked more from this album except...well...more! But I can never get enough!!
I only wish there was more 'punky' stuff on it, but that is just my opinion. If you prefer more trumpets and sing-alongs...Then this is most definitely for you! I loveed every , minute of it!
