Originating from the US sunshine capital of San Jose, California, the Music Machine were fronted by Thomas Sean Bonniwell, a charismatic musical genius. Possessing a baritone voice, akin to Elvis and Jim Morrison, Bonniwell's vocals possessed a distinctive quality, one which had the ability to uplift and be darkly meloncholic. The Music Machine were born in 1966, after Bonniwell in his previous incarnation with the garage band rockers, The Raggamuffins had dispersed. Having a penchant and a passion for dressing in black and wearing the infamous Beatles mop tops, the Music Machine consisted of Keith Olsen on bass, Ron Edgar taking up the drums, Doug Rhodes lending his finger tips to play organ, Mark Landon on lead guitar, as well as Bonniwell taking the helm of playing rhythm guitar and supplying the lead vocals.

This particular album by these Californian hipsters is full of quality tunes, that possess Music Machine's trademark raw and boundless energy for playing nothing but top draw garage rock, tinted with an element of freakbeat and psyche.
The opening track, Talk Talk has now gained cult status amongst collectors of garage rock, and is perhaps one their better known recordings. Other stella moments include the cover version of the Beatles callssic, Taxman, Masculine Intention, The People In Me,See See Rider and on a lighter note, the lovely and breezy number, Cherry Cherry. However, this quality collection ends on a dark and brooding note, as the Music Machine's rendition of the Hendrix classic, Hey Joe is delivered with such heart rendering passion and feeling which will have even the most stone hearted sole singing along up into the heavens. Bonniwell's meloncholic tones and Doug Rhodes' swirling and spine tingling organ come together to a raptourous climax which Hendrix himself would be proud. All in all, this really is a class album and one which deserves your attention, if 60s garage is your bag. The Music Machine are perhaps one of the greatest living testiments to this incredible and thrilling music genre, which never fails to excite and fascinate.

Anyone with an interest in checking out some of the American garage punk of the 60's would do themselves a big favour by starting off with this record.

The Music Machine basicly embody garage music, they released one hit single, one album and all members wore matching black clothes. The album contains their one hit, talk talk which is worth buying this record for alone. However their trump card is an excellant cover of probably the best garage song ever written 96 Tears (originally by ? and the mysterians) they make the song much faster and much more aggressive sounding than the original.

Other highlights are Come on in, Trouble, Masculine Intuition and The People in me.

This album is just short of perfection really, I usually avoid a couple of songs, but overall the album is really great, dead short (as all good garage albums should be)most songs don't go far over two minutes and it has one of my favorate album covers of all time.

Along with The Sonics, ? and the Mysterians,The Monks, The Kingsmen and the Standells, The Music Machine are one of the all time classic garage groups who are far too overlooked in the music history books. Considering how cheap this record just do yourself a favour and give it a listen.

Music Machine - '(Turn On) The Music Machine' (Repertoire) 9 Oct 2006
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Very good debut lp on CD reissue of the 1966 release of this short-lived garage rock band. Vocalist / guitarist Sean Bonniwell seems to be Music Machine's focal point. This twelve track disc might've been EVEN better, had it featured more of Machine's originals, like the smash hit single "Talk Talk", "Trouble" and "Some Other Drum". Their original material that I've even heard on another CD of theirs, 'Beyond The Garage' (see my review) was pretty decent. Covers here are nice, though like the Beatle's "Taxman", Neil Diamond's "Cherry Cherry" and ? And The Mysterian's "96 Tears". A should-have.

Excelentes originales, innecesarios covers 28 Mar 2003
