Product Description

Product Description
In Summer 2004 Dogs went wild in the country. They recorded an album that bristles with vitriol and the twelve tunes are delivered with a sneer and a sarc'y grin. The double A-side "London Bridge" and "End Of An Era" was hailed as "the debut single of the year" by The Times.

Follow up single "She's Got A Reason" contained a classic example of Johnny Dogs' unique song writing ("I liked you better when you liked me as well....". Elsewhere, the superb "Tarred & Feathered" displays why it's such a live favourite amongst the burgeoning Dogs fan base and "Wait" is surely an all time classic love song moshing down the indie disco.

CD Description
Debut album from five piece London-based Dogs. This first offering draws obvious comparisons to bands such as Razorlight and The Subways and lead singer Johnny Cooke's vocals are reminiscent of the late Ian Dury. The album is released through Island Records and features the singles 'London Bridge' and 'Selfish Ways'.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Historic Debut Album!, 1 Aug 2005
I was going to review this track by track and give you enough to read to that you could make up your mind on if you thought that it was worth buying. Let's get that bit out the way now...BUY IT! If you half liked any of the 4 singles that have been released, you'll love the album.
They've already mastered a Dogs sound, even though this is a debut. Okay, there are obvious influences in there like The Clash, or The Jam, but they are just that, influences. They've managed to take the feeling that these bands have and create Turn Against The Land, a debut album that will stand out in any music collection.
London Bridge, End of an Era, Tarred and Feathered, and Tuned to a Different Station are all there, all future classics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where have you lot been hiding!!!, 6 Sep 2005
By Mark Foakes (Salisbury, England) - See all my reviews
Well as an indie fan desperatly seeking some inspiration of late with the same old commercial bands kicking the backside out of the industry...i found...Dogs!!!!! I'll be honest after the 1st listen a few songs stood out, track 2 selfish ways, slow start great chorus quite thrashy/punky..quality, then track 6 it's not right, again really upbeat song you want to get up and jump about to, track 7, tuned to a different station is a much more mature song of some depth which i think compliments this band totally, this is what Dogs are about, mixture of thrashy guitar chorus to subtle guitar verse. I think this song is the best on the album. Track 10, heading for an early grave is again a thrasy song full of energy.
All in all Dogs have delivered an album which is a breath of fresh air, Full of energy, really gets you going just when you though indie was a dying breed!! Agreed there are other bands trying to portray a similar sound but these guys do it very well. Album needs a few listens but if you want an album that gets the blood rushing a bit. Buy dogs..turn it up loud and enjoy. Great debut album.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best debut records ever made, 15 Aug 2005
By TripFontaine (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Maybe that's a sweeping statement, but i'm blown way by this. I buy about 10 albums a month and this is one of the best records I've come accross in quite some time. I'd heard mixed reports about them and i think that's cos they're the kind of band you'll either love or hate. If you're just after some kind of libertines replacement (which is how some of the press seem to be weirdly positiong them) then don't look here, because while there are up-beat, punky if you like, songs on here dogs come accross as both more talented musically and a lot more real/passionate than doherty and co ever were. There's also a few slower songs on here like donkey and wait which are great to chill out to. It's difficult to say in a nutshell what this album sounds like, but if The Jam meets Pavement meets early manics sounds appealing then buy it and you won't be sorry!
