Sunflower Guide Kas to Dalyan Second Edition 2009, 29 May 2009
This review is from: Turkish Coast: Kas to Dalyan (Sunflower Guides Turkish Coast: Kas to Dalyan) (Paperback)
The new revised edition has now been published (March 2009) and is easily the best guide I have found to this part of Turkey packed with useful information, handy tips and excellent maps. It has proved to be an invaluable aid to planning a visit to the region and helping find some otherwise forgotton or little explored back waters. It is pocket sized and offers much more comprehensive coverage than the mainstream travel guides to Turkey. Very clearly written and presented too.

a walker's book, 24 Aug 2008
This review is from: Turkish Coast: Kas to Dalyan (Sunflower Guides Turkish Coast: Kas to Dalyan) (Paperback)
This isn't an alternative to a lonely planet style guide book, it's aimed at the hiking / walking community instead which I now understand is what the Sunflower Guides do. (I didn't realise this when ordering it). There are only 8 pages on Kas itself (accommodation, restaurants, bars etc) which I found disappointing as I assumed it would have more detailed info than for example, a guide book on the whole of Turkey. I did find the tone of the book a little patronising at times too.
There is good page and a half on Kastellorizo with a couple of walks and a few recommendations which was a welcome surprise.
Highlight of the book (in the helpful section on haggling when buying Turkish carpets)
"If you know next to nothing about carpets, by all means buy a cheap one as a souvenir (when you consign it to the loft the moths will be happy) - or go to a specialist back home.... If you must buy a carpet in Turkey...check the thickness of the knots... Be sure to ask if the carpet can fly and, if not, immediately ask for a 50% discount..."
The back cover has a useful fold out road map of the region.
If you're planning on doing lots of walking in the region it's probably perfect for you, but if you're looking for a guide book with a bit more info then this probably isn't for you.
