Product Description

Combines the best features of a Sunflower walking guide with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide. A Turkish poet once described the area between Bodrum and Marmaris as 'terrifyingly' beautiful. Silver-leaved olive groves and wild inland mountains yield up the stone remains of ancient civilisations. The dazzling multi-coloured bays, framed by fissured cliffs and collared with golden sand, are the stuff of dreams. Snuggled into the coves are romantic fishing villages, where you will be greeted with genuine Turkish hospitality. And in Bodrum and Marmaris you can mix with the Turkish jet set. In some old mountain villages and along isolated sections of the coast there are more and more small quiet places to stay. All the authors have been visiting Turkey for many years, writing general and walking guides. They guide you through the most beautiful landscapes of the region. Coverage: Getting there and getting about i?? Recommended accommodation and restaurants (with prices) i?? Practicalities A-Z i?? History i?? 15-20 main walks with many variations, all with large-scale topo maps i?? Fold-out area maps i?? Detailed town plans showing locations of all sights, hotels and restaurants i?? Plans of ancient sites i?? Many 'feature' panels

I've previously used other Sunflower guides so made sure to get hold of this one when travelling to the small coastal town of Akyaya. Many guides to Turkey are insufficiently detailed because it's such a vast country, and even books devoted to specific areas have to cover a lot of ground. This guide was perfect for us, giving us ideas of things to do and see within a fairly easy journey time. Sadly we didn't get to do any of the walks Sunflower guides are so good for on this occasion, as we were travelling with young children - but even so the guide had plenty to offer us. The section on practicalities was especially helpful to us as first time visitors to Turkey, and the fold out map was so much easier to use than conventional maps (hopelessly large scale for driving!).

Not so good for walks 4 April 2011
Format:Paperback
We used the 2007 edition for a walking holiday in 2010. We found many of the walks were not as described due to all the new development on the Bodrum Peninsular. In fact the entire area seems to be one big building site! So it is hardly Sunflower's fault that the book was not up to date enough, but this was no condsolation to us. One general problem we have is that for some areas we have to buy the Sunflower Complete Guide when all we need is a "Landscapes" book as we only use the books for walking. This is the case for this book and for the one we've bought for our next walking holiday in the Dolomites. Maybe Sunflower could offer both formats for the same destination in future.

Enjoy Turkey 14 May 2009
Format:Paperback
I used the whole series of Sunflower Turkish guides during my last year trip to Turkey, all are very informative and of special value to "walking" travelers as contain detailed maps and descriptions of the routes.
I used 2007 edition of the Bodrum to Marmaris guide, but assume 2009 edition might be even better and more update.
