Product Description

CD Description

The story of Elvis Presley is the ultimate example of the American Dream. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, the tale of this poor Southern boy, who rose to great wealth and worldwide fame, is one that virtually defies belief. Sadly it is also the story of the tragedy of a youngster who eventually lost touch with reality. Ill advised by his manager who was only interested in chasing the fast buck, Elvis hastened his own departure from this mortal coil through his life style, dying at the age of 42. But most importantly of all it is the story of a man who revolutionised popular music and brought rock 'n' roll to the world. His fame spread right across the world, and at the height of the Cold War, his music was banned in the USSR. However Elvis bootlegs were cut on discarded x-ray plates and in 1957 were selling for the not inconsiderable sum of 50 roubles! The years between 1954 and 1957 were probably the happiest of his life as his career took off and he was able to enjoy the trappings of fame. This boxset explores the first four years of Elvis' career as he rose from a Memphis truck driver to the hottest rock 'n' roll star worldwide.

A Bargain 1 Feb 2008
Format:Audio CD
You can hardly go wrong with this Proper Box Set. Only £9.00 for a 4cd set and informative booklet by Adam Koromowski. Fans will have all these tracks a hundred times over but disc 1 which is largely live from the Hayride and Eagles Hall do sound very fresh. Even Hearts of Stone (although low-fi) is listenable which it wasn't on the Sunrise set. New fans may well go for this although to be fair may not really know what to make of disc 1 which was never intended for commercial release.

Youth Revisited 8 Mar 2010
Format:Audio CD
The sound quality of some of the live performances is disappointing but the content of the other discs is really great and more than makes up for this. They're full of late 50s songs to show Elvis in his early days; the best for me! I am delighted with it!

eary Elvis, before Germany 12 May 2010

Four cds, chronological order by Prosper who always does a great job. This is the music that made Elvis famous, early raw rock and roll. The first cd has a lot of live recordings, some very raw and in many cases the same song multiple times. I admit I have not listened to any other early Elvis years from Sun so they may be excellent also.

I found the sound quality to be very good considering the equipment that some of the very early ones must have been recorded on.

I bought this collection because of my fondness for early Elvis, Sun early rock and roll and its evolution out of southern blues and I was not disappointed. If you like Elvis I am sure you will enjoy this and want to share it with other Elvis fans.
