A Bargain,

You can hardly go wrong with this Proper Box Set. Only £9.00 for a 4cd set and informative booklet by Adam Koromowski. Fans will have all these tracks a hundred times over but disc 1 which is largely live from the Hayride and Eagles Hall do sound very fresh. Even Hearts of Stone (although low-fi) is listenable which it wasn't on the Sunrise set. New fans may well go for this although to be fair may not really know what to make of disc 1 which was never intended for commercial release.

The sound quality of some of the live performances is disappointing but the content of the other discs is really great and more than makes up for this. They're full of late 50s songs to show Elvis in his early days; the best for me! I am delighted with it!

eary Elvis, before Germany,
By Dennis M. Heath - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Tupelo Mississippi Flash (4CD) (Audio CD)
Four cds, chronological order by Prosper who always does a great job. This is the music that made Elvis famous, early raw rock and roll. The first cd has a lot of live recordings, some very raw and in many cases the same song multiple times. I admit I have not listened to any other early Elvis years from Sun so they may be excellent also.
I found the sound quality to be very good considering the equipment that some of the very early ones must have been recorded on. I bought this collection because of my fondness for early Elvis, Sun early rock and roll and its evolution out of southern blues and I was not disappointed. If you like Elvis I am sure you will enjoy this and want to share it with other Elvis fans. |
