Book Description

24 May 2012
Phil Tufnell, aka "Tuffers", is the much-loved English cricketer from the 1990s who has now become one of this country's favourite broadcasters. Not cast from the same mould as other players of his generation, Tufnell became a cult figure for his unorthodox approach to the game ... and to life in general. "Tuffers' Cricket Tales" is a deliciously eccentric collection of the great man's favourite cricket stories that will amuse and inform in equal measure. Tufnell's unmistakably distinctive voice, as heard to such good effect on "Test Match Special", steers fans through dozens and dozens of terrifically entertaining and insightful anecdotes, garnered from his 25-year playing and broadcasting career. He introduces a cast of genuinely colourful characters found in dressing-rooms and commentary boxes from around the world, and in the process offers a uniquely warm and quirky homage to his sport. A perfect Father's Day gift for all cricket fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuinely hilarious! 24 May 2012
Format:Hardcover
This book proves once and for all that Tuffers is a national treasure. In his inimitable style, Tuffers recalls his many antics from his years as a player, as well as reflections on the modern game, including the 'special' deliveries he wishes he'd had up his sleeve back in the day... There's even insight into his subsequent career as a presenter, all textbook Tuffers. I loved the 'Tuffersauraus', featuring choice words and phrases from Tuffers' distinctive brand of commentary.

The beauty of this book is that even people who only like cricket a little, love Tuffers a lot. A winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, hilarious and insightful 24 May 2012
Format:Hardcover
I finished the book this afternoon and had to post a review. It was brilliant! Phil's stories are classics, I've learnt so much about what goes on in the dressing room before, during and after a match that I'll never look on a match in the same way.

Fans of cricket and fans of the man himself will love the book.

I looked forward to this as tuff ears can be fairly amusing. But despite some insights it was not quite what I expected.
