First up, a confession. If I hadn't been careless, my X-Fi 32GB wouldn't have been broken. I'm not abdicating all responsibility for the problem...

The case is very good at protecting against minor knocks and scuffs from everyday use, but has a fundamentally flawed design which not only fails to cope with localised pressure, but actively exacerbates the detrimental effects of such.

The flaw is the SD card holder, on the inside of the cover. It sits snug against the screen and, under normal circumstances, shouldn't cause any problems. Apply significant pressure to the cover, though, and the card holder will press against the screen, with potentially disastrous effects. Physics in action, you see. It's the same reason why high-heels shouldn't be worn on boats.

My X-Fi got trapped under the boot lid of my car (told you I wasn't paying attention). Upon rescuing it, I found that the screen had a crack completely across it, at exactly the point where the edge of the SD card holder was. In addition, the display is now completely shot, and only lights up. I suppose I could use it as an expensive rechargeable torch now. At least the guts of the thing worked enough for me to rescue the files off of it afterwards via USB.

If the SD card holder wasn't present, the screen wouldn't have cracked the way it did. The unit might still have been wrecked, mind you, but the screen would have survived.

So, if you have one of these cases, make sure you don't put undue pressure on the side where the screen is. This applies even more strongly if you've been foolish enough to put an SD card into the holder.

Now I'm off to buy another audio player...

This was replacement case for me as the original was without access to the on/off switch, the seller very kindly emailed me to offer me this case with access which is very well made of tuff leather ideal to protect your x-fi if your are prone to dropping things. All openings are well lined up for headephones/charging/sd card.

What can i say, i had this case for over 3 months now, still just like new it keeps your Zen in tip top condition, i even dropped my Zen, but the Tuff-Luv came to my aid, still in one piece?
i say its not Tuff-Luv but true love, many thanks for a great bit of kit, it's like a second skin for my Zen, it fits it like a glove.
Go buy, all Zens should have one, ps, there is nothing wrong with the stitching top class.
Many thanks.
Ian

This case fits my Zen X-Fi nicely, and all the buttons and ports are accessible - however, the commonly used 'play button' (bottom right corner) and the 'menu' button (top right corner) can be a bit fiddly to get at. I have one gripe and two suggestions for improvement. First the gripe: the pathetic caribiner snapped the very first time the case was dropped - though I must say that the Zen itself was very well protected.

The two suggestions: 1) a belt loop on the back of the case would make a useful addition - possible instead of the caribiner. 2) a fold of leather across the open top of the Zen pouch to tuck in to keep the Zen enclosed even when the cover is opened up.

Overall, I like the level of protection this is giving my Zen - neither the case (with the exception of the caribiner) nor the Zen are showing any signs of wear and tear in the three months I've owned them, and I use them both on a daily basis.

The case certainly fits the Zen Xi-Fi very neatly and protects it well against knocks and the black leather is good quality. However I have 3 minor niggles and one major one: the case will not stand up on its own as illustrated; the white stiching looks very clumsy and "folksy" - finer, black stitching would be so much neater and sleeker; the on/off switch is very difficult to operate unless you have small fingers and long nails - this is mainly because of the position of the switch on the Zen which is so close to the edge that the makers of the case really don't have much room to position their opening. Finally, after only 2 weeks, the carabiner broke.

It is worth protecting your mp3 player from knocks and scratches so a good cover should be worth getting, and the Tuff-Luv is no exception. Designed for the Creative ZEN Xfi series it fits snugly and has a carabina type clip for hanging on a belt loop or similar. All but one of the player controls are easily accessable, just the bottom right button of the Xfi for play/pause is made slightly awkward but still ok for access. The internal detail features an SD card holder which is primarily to hold the blank card which fills the device SD slot when not in use. This I find usefull rather than risk losing it. I would not recomend storing a card in it as it will not hold a card in it's case, but that is not what it is designed for.

If I were to suggest any improvements, an additional clip to hold your headphone cable when not in use would be appreciated, and an easy method of personalisation could be usefull for households with more than one of these players.

Overall, though the cover is not perfect it does the job, is not hugely expensive and the finishing and stitching is of good quality. Certainly worth considering if wanting to protect your player from general wear & tear.
