As I'm settling into a new life in the UK, the pitkin series provides a very good overview of what one needs to know about the main historical happenings in the last 2000 years in England.

100s of pictures and short articles make this an easy read which can be taken along to any of the countless historical sites worthwile visiting.

These books can be picked up in any of the one pound book stores, so keep an open eye.
