Book Description

23 April 2012
Take a fresh look at London from the
perspective of the oldest and most
iconic underground railway in the
world. London residents are said
to spend an average of 68 minutes
travelling each day, with millions
choosing the Tube as a fast and
convenient means to get from A to B.
The network is also a tourist attraction
in its own right and the way many
visitors to the capital move around the
city, experience the attractions and
dodge the bad weather.

Tube London takes each Underground
station in Zone 1, from Aldgate to
Westminster, and looks at the stories
that define the surrounding area.
Discover more about the London beer
flood of 1814, the identity crisis of Eros
and the myths surrounding the ancient
and enigmatic London Stone. From
bloody executions and ghost stories to
architectural and engineering triumphs,
eccentric traditions and surprising
facts; this book is about the people and
events that have made London what
it is today: a world-class city with an
extraordinary history.

5.0 out of 5 stars A permanent fixture for my library! 24 May 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Absolutely fascinating! I love London and must have nearly two dozen books about every aspect of the city. This is a beautiful book to look at and read. It lightly touches on different stories to do with the Zone 1 (the heart of London) tube stations- just enough information to give the already curious a springboard for further investigation. This is the kind of book I really enjoy, one that introduces you to something that feeds a burning obsession. I can't wait to investigate more!
