A WORLD OF MODERN MECHA AND MAGIC

Syaoran, Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona venture to the Hanshin Republic to find one of the missing pieces of Sakura’s memory, transformed into magically powerful feathers. There, Syaoran meets his “Kudan”: a fierce wolf-spirit whose fiery power mirrors Syaoran’s personal strength. But with foes like a pop idol who sings words of pain, Syaoran’s hunt for feathers is no child’s game! Even if he finds the feather, will Sakura ever wake up from her magical sleep? And since Syaoran bargained away their relationship in a pact with a witch, can their love ever return to the way it was?

Includes special extras after the story!

Kudan fighting 8 Feb 2010
By T. R. Alexander TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This second volume of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle sees Syaoran and his friend's search for Sakura's feather interrupted by a territorial dispute between two gangs that use their Kudan to fight each other. This fight leads to them making a new friend and gives them a lead on for their quest.

This volume sees Syaoran and his group get into their first serious fights of the series and the resulting battles are very good. The artwork remains very good with some of the Kudan beautifully drawn and the action shown nicely as well. Tsubasa is a very interesting and enjoyable manga and although it does get very confusing as the series goes on, it is always entertaining.

There may be spoilers here and there. Hope that's okay.

As Syaoran has just had a magical fire creature emerge from his chest, he's a little confused. He's told that this creature is his "kudan", who came to him in a dream. Kurogane and Fai both admit that they also had dream encounters, but don't explain more. The locals seem to regard Syaoran as a high-level person who the various gangs want to either have him join theirs, or beat him thoroughly. One boy, who admits to Syaoran that he wants to have a strong kudan of his own (his seems to be weak), starts following Syaoran through the city. This boy is mistakenly kidnapped by guys working for a girl who wants her boyfriend, one of the gang leaders who said he likes Syaoran's "style".

While this battle goes on, and the kudan of Kurogane and Fai emerge as well, but then Mokona senses one of Sakura's feathers again. The travellers realize that Sakura's feather has lodged inside one of the kudan-- the one belonging to the boy whose kudan had been "weak". Syaoran must goes through flame and flood to retrieve the feather, but he insists he won't give up, with an eerily dark determination.

Afterwards, when the feather is restored to Sakura, it sinks into her chest, and she finally emerges from her coma. But she has no memory of Syaoran whatever. He smiles gently and introduces himself, but after, he goes out of the apartment into the heavily pouring rain, which hides his tears.

Kurogane senses that there is more to both Syaoran and Fai than he first thought. Our heroes are only at the start of their journey, and there's a lot of heartbreak to come. But it will be a good ride, too.
