After three top 10 hits, Ian van Dahl are back with the 4th single taken from their first album (A.C.E.). It is an excellent trance/dance song. Original Radio Edit is a shortened version of Dee Dee Remix (available on 12'' only). Michael Woods Remix is the best version of the song. (It is an extended mix of a version used in the video). Tillmann Urhmacher Remix is different, being more club-oriented. Ian van Dahl won a TOP OF THE POPS award for the best dance artist. They are in the studio right now, working on the new album. Let us all wish them many wonderful singles just the way TRY is!

Ian Van Dahl announced her arrival from the European school of cheesy dance-pop (Alice Deejay, Fragma, Vengaboys, etc) with the summer hit 'Castles in the Sky'. Although said hit was surrounded by the distinctive waft of fromage, it at least combined euphorically commercial trance with a catchy pop chorus, and no doubt deserved its success.

Fourth single 'Try' though is as bland and forgettable as the last two ('Will I' and 'Reason' - who remembers how they go?). Excuse the pun, but it's trying too hard - repeating the same formula, but without any of the elements in place that made the first time so much more successful. Obviously knowing where their market is, this single includes two radio edits. This time though the vocals are far too unmemorable, and unlikely to spark even the drunken crowds of Park End [or insert local cheesy club of your choice] to sing along. It's the Dee Dee edit that makes best use of 'Like a bird in the sky/ Flying on the wings of love'. Ironically it's the 7 minute Tillman Uhrmacher remix largely devoid of vocals that seems the best version, keeping up sufficient variation whilst avoiding being over-commercial. Even that's unlikely to satisfy hardcore clubbers, but then what did you expect?
